The construction of HS2 from London to the West Midlands and to other areas would significantly transform the nation's economic landscape (Department of Transport,2011,p.9).This is due to the fact that the new rail network world effectively bring the main cities closer to each other and enable businesses to work more productively. The new railway system would support the growth of employment as well as regeneration while providing a very genuine alternative to the region's domestic aviation. The aim is to deliver along-term as well as sustainable economic growth as well as prosperity. There has however bee opposition to the development of the new rail network on sustainability and environmental grounds (House of Commons,2009; Department of Transport,2010;Hamilton,2007). What is HS2?
HS2 is a proposed Y-Shaped national high speed railway network that would link London to Birmingham, the city of Manchester to Leads with various stops in both the East Midlands as well as South Yorkshire with a direct link to the HS1 line.
