High School Sports Recruitment The Term Paper

If a student shows promise, he or she might earn a scholarship or financial aid package. The opportunity to attend college is denied to many high school students from disadvantaged neighborhoods or who have a keener predilection for sports than for math. Therefore, high school recruiting can be an immensely positive force and even if the student does not become the next Lebron James, he or she stands a solid chance of enjoying the next four years at university, meeting new people, developing athletic as well as academic skills, and expanding horizons. Therefore, the recruitment of high school athletes needs to be tempered with common sense rules and adequate access to physical, social, and psychological support systems. Drug testing is only one facet of the proper recruitment of high school students, albeit an important one. Adequate attention to proper physical training can minimize injuries; adequate attention paid to proper psychological counseling can minimize stress, depression, or related problems like substance abuse or eating disorders. High school students who have been recruited also need to make sure that they establish solid support systems at their new schools, because friendships and romances...

Academic advisors, professors, and college deans should work closely with their new recruits to design academic programs that suit their talents, needs, and aptitude. While new recruits should not be able to flunk out too easily, they should also not be permitted to ignore a well-rounded academic undergraduate career. When high school students are recruited into college-level sports, they are being offered an opportunity of a lifetime; that opportunity should not be able to become a detriment through improper sports recruitment.
