Greatest Accomplishment and Greatest Disappointment

Last reviewed: November 7, 2003 ~2 min read

¶ … achievements that I accomplished throughout my life as a student is that I was able to attend to John Hopkins University after my high school graduation. An average student in high school, I never expected that I will be accepted to the University, since among the universities I applied for, John Hopkins is the most prestigious and competitive university. Thus, my acceptance to the University is significant to my development not only as a student, but as an individual as well, since I learned to be more confident and I developed a higher self-esteem about myself when I became a student of John Hopkins. Learning to be more confident and developing, a greater degree of self-esteem is not an easy feat for me. This is because I perceive myself as an average student, who manages to pass my subjects, but have barely enough to prove myself and other people that I have 'extraordinary' skills and abilities academically. However, my acceptance to John Hopkins changed all my preconceived notions about myself. Over time, I learned to be more confident in dealing with problems and activities related to academics. Furthermore, I began perceiving myself, and I believe that I am capable of achieving higher goals in life, such as my plan to apply and enroll in a Masters degree in Business Administration. I now realize that because of my low perception and regard of myself, I was not able to aim higher than I should and my capabilities can. Fortunately, because of a very rewarding episode in my life, i.e., my being accepted in John Hopkins University, I am now more aware of my skills and capabilities. Furthermore, I am putting my skills and capabilities to the fullest by pursuing my studies for more, broader knowledge in business administration. Because of my experience in life from being a struggling, and eventually, successful college student, I am now not afraid to explore and take advantage of the opportunities that I think will eventually become beneficial to me.
