¶ … homicides would be prevented if offenders knew the death penalty would strongly be enforced in most cases.

In cases such as Bin Laden and Timothy McVay, the Oklahoma bomber, no one would even consider religious and moral activists pleas against capital punishment.

Taxpayers must financially support the killers who are serving a lifetime sentence, whom decided they had a right to take someone's life for no justified reason, so that these homicide offenders can exist.

Oreintation;

I am in favor of capital punishment

Transition

Most people who oppose the death penalty do so because of religious or moral reasons.

Statement of Reason

Favoring the Death Penalty

Taxpayers must financially support the killers who are serving a lifetime sentence, whom decided they had a right to take someone's life for no justified reason, so that these homicide offenders can live. * "Capital punishment offenders are beyond the hope of rehabilitation. They argue that execution is less cost to tax-payers than the alternative, long imprisonment" according to Tammy Bernier, Capital Punishment, the Ethical Debate. However the real drawback to keeping offenders in prison for a lifetime is that the victim's family must support the life of the one that killed their loved one. As more people become aware of this, however, the people who favor the death penalty are rising.

* According to the Capital Punishment article, the statistics are showing us that the U.S. citizens in favor of capital punishment are rising. In 1981, two-thirds of Americans favored the death penalty. In 1985 the statistics rose to 72%, 1991 the percentages rose to 76% and in 1994 80% of the population favored the death penalty. For years people who oppose the death penalty has perhaps stopped some criminals from going to death row. We are no longer hearing of individuals getting murdered, we are now hearing buildings getting bombed, school shootings, and famous people getting killed. Because of the arguments supporting the death penalty, criminals are now going after the publicity of planning their escapades.

* For example, the murder of the Texan singer was a brutal jealous murder. Yolanda wanted the fame and the stardom that was associated with Selena. When Selena ended the business relationship, Yolanda killed her. When Selena was killed, her death took away from the Mexican culture. Her culture of Mexican- Americans was just beginning to be accepted, and it was taken from them.

In my conclusion, murder victims did not have the option of a jury, nor did they have a chance to have an activist fighting to save their life. Religious activist would probably react very differently if they were in a situation where they had to fend for their lives. Today, it is not just one person dying because of insanity, but instead it is thousands of people getting killed through vengeance. Instead of going to their execution, they will get their names in the paper, and on television, and more often than not have a better life in prison they do in society.

Taxpayers must financially support the killers who are serving a lifetime sentence, whom decided they had a right to take someone's life for no justified reason. These homicide offenders are living off tax-payers money.. In many cases, it is much more immoral and unrighteous to allow people like Bin Laden and Timothy Mcvay live than give them the death penalty. In my closing statement enforcing the death penalty supports life, because if everyone knew he or she would receive capital punishment, they probably would be more hesitant about planning to take someone's life.
