There is much controversy with regard to forensics in the contemporary society, especially considering that the media world bombards the masses with information that is often false or that influences people to develop unrealistic expectations concerning this domain. People would have to understand that forensic science is both limited and often likely to produce results that are not valid.

There are certainly flaws in forensic testing, especially considering that experts are, in some cases, likely to make mistakes. This can lead to significant issues and can actually put good people behind bars while actual criminals are being left on the streets. It would be ignorant for someone to consider that forensic science is perfect and that it would be wrong to question it. The reality is that science can often be interpretable and that forensic experts can have a wrong impression. The authorities identify cases involving forensic scientists failing in their analysis of a case as being anomalies and the fact that they are unable to refute evidence that these people bring means that the risk is great.

In spite of the limited power of forensic science and although it is possible for it to fail in some cases, it typically produces evidence that would be impossible to find through other methods. This type of crime analysis is responsible for enabling courts to identify criminals before they were able to continue committing crimes and for thus protecting society from serious threats. In spite of its ability to use forensics with the purpose of capturing criminals, the Michigan State Police would also have to acknowledge its limited ability to take action in certain cases.

By reconsidering its position in law enforcement, the forensic laboratory in my organization would be able to restructure some of its attitudes. By being able to realize its limitations it would employ a more careful type of thinking when trying to apprehend criminals. The issue in this discussion would be that forensic analyses often have to be performed rapidly and analysts need to do everything in their power in order to provide test results in situations when people's lives depend on it. This makes it difficult for many to be able to maintain their calm and to thus be able to provide conclusive data. Society would also have to understand that forensic analysts are pressured by time and that they often have to stay long hours while performing a report. As a consequence, they might be exhausted and in some cases less likely to produce evidence that can be considered valid in court.
