Flatiron Corporation Began In 1947 Term Paper

This is especially true with the expansion of its subsidiary into marine building and tunnel building work as more and more regional locals look to tried and true companies to build mass transit projects and rebuild existing large infrastructural automobile routes. Most companies that build large civil projects are specialized in o ne or another area, focusing mainly on road building and/or bridge reconstruction. Flatiron is one of the few companies that diversify to meet many more large civil engineering projects, and it is also one of the only national companies to do so as most such companies are international corporations working in the U.S. (http://dmoz.org/Business/Construction_and_Maintenance/Commercial_Contractors/Civil_and_Roadworks/) To remain competitive in this rather elite market Flatiron must pay special attention to management of individual projects to reduce the ever present fine load on the organization as well as retain contract deadlines and potentially finish early, a trend in this industry that is paying contractors greater funds for completion of projects early, allowing such companies to move on to new projects and still reap the benefits of the contract payment, sometimes in excess, as a result of the money saved by the contract agency in other areas. (http://www.lsb.state.ok.us/HOUSE/news6960.html) This national trend has given the company and many others like it incentive to create programs, projects and improve technologies...

The company must also pay special attention that in these bonus earning circumstances all the needs of the project are met to the fullest of its potential, without any loss of infrastructural soundness. The most important issue at hand is then that hired subcontractors are formally overseen by company officials and all inspections, both internal and external are as thorough as possible.

This would help to cut costs, and was seen as a significant problem as evidenced by the table on page 2. Another important issue was the consequences of using construction material that is substandard, meaning that the materials may be more difficult to work with and they not be as reliable and durable. Most individuals did not want to use these products, but there are often no other choices.
