¶ … Ethical Practice Means Better Business

Can we introduce more values and spirituality to our business models successfully and with promise of greater financial rewards?

Vast literature that exists on this subject will be closely studied with particular focus on pioneering works like Bennis' and later more comprehensive work by Donal Dorr and Chris Lowney. Some real life case studies will also be included that show how lack of ethics led to collapse of some major organizations and how businesses can be significantly improved by the introduction of spirituality and ethical values.

With recent cases of lack of ethics that resulted in serious financial losses to the business world and its many stakeholders, it has become all the more critical to explore the possibility of making businesses more ethical by adoption of spiritual leadership. The concept is however not new and Bennis was the first guru to introduce this idea more than two decades ago in 1989. The groundwork that he laid was later built on by people like Chris Lowney who in 2003 offered a leadership model that was inspired by sound ethical beliefs. He said that, "we're all leaders and we're leading all the time; leadership springs from within & #8230;; leadership & #8230; is a way of living; & #8230; becoming a leader [is] an ongoing process" (2003, 20). His model of leadership which he called Heroic leadership is based on four core values of self-awareness, ingenuity, heroism and love (Lowney 2003, 9).
