Electronic Medical Records: Can They Term Paper

The probability that clinicians will be faced with the hazardous business of conducting a visit without a patient record, that pharmacists, auditors, and other clinicians will be hindered by sloppy handwriting, or that clinicians will prescribe a medication that the patient is allergic to will be greatly diminished (Buppert, 2010). There are some that think that EMRs may generate new calamities. The technology is seen by some as bringing about a new set of risks in that EMRs do not eliminate a significant set of risks that are there whether one uses the pen or the keyboard. Some clinicians are going to be bad typists, just as some clinicians are known to have bad penmanship. Malpractice defense may be disadvantaged by an excess of meaningless documentation that is generated by the use of templates. Insurance auditors often doubt the reality of documentation because of thoughtless use of templates. The amount of incidents that occur every year and especially those that end up in death is way too high. It seems that whatever issues that might arise from EMR's could easily be remedied compared to the lives that are lost due to medical errors and that can't be brought back.
