What are endowments?

Endowments are gifts that 'keep on giving.' Endowments are financial gifts of money, property, or other resources to a university that are then reinvested, so they can grow over time. They are investments in an institution's future and ensure that a charitable action has ramifications for years to come. Often they are useful long after the giver and the original recipient have passed away. They ensure stability of funds for the university, if wisely invested, and enable the value of monetary gifts to be maintained, as the financial value of the gift keeps pace with inflation.

Why A.T. Still?

Still University is one of the pioneers of healthcare education. When giving to A.T. How will my donation be used?

Donors should be aware that the university demands that 20% of all annual funds are reinvested. This is essential for students whose tuition scholarships are dependant upon the continued growth of endowments. It ensures that they can continue their education from year to year, as the university investments grow and prosper. It also allows A.T. Still confidence and flexibility in allocating funds for its operations, along with many worthy areas of research.

But donors can still have confidence that they have unprecedented control over a donation will be managed. 80% of an endowment is allocated according to donor discretion. Donors can have a great deal of creativity and imagination in allocating their gifts.

In the past, endowments have been designated for the advancement of research, development of academic programs, faculty support, facilities, student recruitment and support, operations, and other high-priority needs. Examples of recent endowments include endowed chairs to honor distinguished professors and endowed programs designed to support specific and general areas of education and research in the field of wellness promotion.
