Interactive Television

SCOLA (http://www.scola.org) offers language instruction delivered by interactive television to students around the world. These higher education programs offer the student the chance to interact with televised lessons, and if the local cable provider subscribes to SCOLA, students have access to the classes quite easily. The Kentucky Education Television section of Kentucky Public Broadcasting (http://www.ket.org/education/onairofferings.htm) offers K-12 programs through interactive television around the state. They offer classes like electronic field trips, news quizzes, and specific classes on English, reading, etc. TWL Knowledge Group (TWLK) (http://www.twlk.com/twlk/aboutTWLK.aspx) offers interactive television professional development courses in a variety of fields from Law Enforcement to Fire and Emergency. It makes sense to offer interactive television to these types of professionals, since they often have to work varied shifts and hours, which makes it difficult for them to attend traditional professional development classes.

University of Phoenix (www.uopxonline.com) is a virtual university that offers degree and professional development programs largely to returning adults. They specialize in adults who are trying to change careers or gain more instruction to enhance their careers. They were one of the first virtual schools to specialize in adult education.

Virtual High School (www.govhs.org) is a virtual K-12 school that offers classes in just about every curriculum and where students can take a variety of courses, including advanced placement courses, gifted & talented courses, and more. They offer semester, and full-year courses, along with summer school. It does not offer high school graduation to students.
