Data Collection Elements
Observation method
This method is used concurrently with quantitative methods but, it is said to be comparatively entailing. As a method of gathering information, it gathers more information and has a validating aspect that these other methods lack. By observation method, - a researcher - is in a position to resolve differences that may be present of be appearing in a study. Observation also allows researcher gather information that would otherwise be unavailable. In the case of the dance_of_ the call_bells, the observed disconnect as far as the call bells goes is not obtainable with required objectivity other than through observation.
Observations made clearly brought to light the notion that matters concerning the call bells were an everyday occurrence. The observation method of data collection also highlighted the frequency of call bells, the numbers, who responded and the times that the bell was rung. This provides essentially important quantitative data that would be used to fortify the observations made.
Photography
As a measure to occurrence, observations - such as those made through photography - are helpful to give a real life experience and also support objective judgment. Further, the observations were varied in terms of time and days to capture overall operations. They were also varied to avail an understanding to the researcher of the routine, schedules, workflow and relationships among staff.
Interviews
Interviews measure and gather opinions from subjects in a study Desimone & Kerstin Carlson Le, 2004.
In this study, the interviews were used to gather information on the call bells as well as complement the information gathered through observations.
Elements of analysis
Analysis conducted covered all the data collection aspect simultaneously using them to compare and complement. The simultaneous use of the different kinds of information assists in collaborating and validating results. The analysis statistically left no room for error by using all the available avenues and information in coming up with conclusions. The confirmation of avoidance behavior observed was confirmed by the patients interviews and the photographic images around the call bell console. The analysis methodology used validated information and allowed for assertiveness in drawing a conclusion.
Elements Used in Measurement
The measures used in the survey included assessing the size of the nursing area, proximity of the area to the call bell console, the frequency of bell rings the particular bell rang, the source of the bell ringing, the time take to respond to the singing bell and, the time take to attend to patients needs and finally the attending persons to the call.
