Crime Prevention In City X Essay

¶ … Daytime Robberies in City X City X is facing nightmares of daytime robberies that have crippled social, economic, and political stability in the city. The police officers have failed to obtain adequate information related to the causes and the perpetrators of the robberies. Therefore, coming up with a plan to investigate the cases and end the situation is important to reduce the vice. The following essay discusses some of the actions related to the case that I will undertake to end the robberies in City X. The essay will discuss investigative steps I will employ to solve the situation, technical assistance I will need to conduct the operation and measures I will employ to analyze the pattern of robbery in the city. In addition, it will discuss ways of synthesizing the information acquired, investigation units required to see the success of the process, equipment required and ways of procuring more funds to facilitate the process.

Steps for conducting the investigation

Investigating a robbery case involves numerous steps that result in the identification of the causes of the robbery, perpetrators, and the implementation of strategies to end the vice in the city. One of the first steps I would employ to initiate my investigation is reviewing reports collected by the police on the issue from all the jurisdictions. This will provide the necessary information that might result in the identification of the causative factors. Secondly, I will re-interview all the witnesses recorded in the police reports. Thirdly, I will consider reviewing all the forensic evidences found from all the cases recorded by the police in the past. Fourthly, I will review all the camera recordings captured at the crime scenes. This will provide physical evidences to those executing the robberies (Fish, 2013).

In the fifth step, I will consider reviewing the tactical analysis of agencies in the city's jurisdictions to acquire information on trends and similarities of the robberies already collected by the agencies. Besides, I will synthesize the information to ensure ease review by questioning the robberies reported and organizing the information to acquire a picture of the occurrence of the robberies in terms of place, time, and location. Seventh, I will map the robberies to acquire a pattern of the offenses. In the eighth step, I will determine if the available workforce is adequate to facilitate the process, or requires the involvement of other agencies. Ninth, I will determine the prevalence of robbery cases in the recent past in all areas within the city by calling the necessary agencies. Lastly, I will determine any densely populated areas, zoning changes, or new businesses that might be influencing the occurrence of the crimes. Employing these steps will facilitate the development of strategic plans for responding to the problem (Pepper, 2010).

Technical assistance

I will consider adopting new technology to facilitate the investigation. Two of the most important technological adoptions I would use are the NCIC and AFIS. These databases will provide my investigation team and me with the ability to compare the robbery arrest records and the fingerprints to enable easy location of the possible matches of suspects. I will also consider using the NIMBRS and the Uniform Crime Report Data. This will be helpful in facilitating the process of recording and storing all the incident reports related to the case. In addition, I will use the Geographical Information Software, also known as the GIS to facilitate analysis and creation of complex mapping data from the information collected from the police reports. Using these technological advances will ensure the success of the investigation by increasing the efficiency and accuracy of the results obtained (Reyes, 2007).

Measures I will take to analyze the pattern of the robbery in the city

Analyzing the pattern of robberies in the city will enable me to understand the future possibilities of robbery occurrence in various parts of the city. The process will provide insight into the nature and incidence of robberies...

In addition, analyzing the pattern of robberies will require the use of the most effective model to gain an understanding of the crimes. Therefore, I will consider using the S.A.R.A. model of analyzing patterns of robberies in the city. The model has four key stages that include scanning, crime analysis, response, and assessment of the crimes. Scanning refers to the process of problem identification by evaluating the information obtained from the police files and witnesses. Analyzing involves determining the effectiveness of the developed plan. Response entails implementing the developed strategic plan while assessment refers to the process of deciding on the effectiveness of the plan. The first step I will execute in the analysis of robbery pattern is collecting raw data. This will entail using the police reports obtained from different individual jurisdiction. I will obtain the data from every jurisdiction and examine the data for the last five years to determine the rates of crime (Pepper, 2010).
How I will synthesize the data to come up with a conclusion on the data collected

This stage will entail data analysis to provide easy understanding of the causative factors, pattern of crimes, and perpetrators of the crimes. The process also will entail determining useful information that will lead to acquisition of an effective solution to the problem. This is followed by interviewing witnesses recorded in the robbery reports, forensic evidences, and review of the camera footage for any clues that might lead to the identification of the crime perpetrators. The rate of change will be determined by dividing the total number of robbery crimes committed in a year by the total population of the city. This will provide an estimated number of robbers per population of the city. I will determine the percentage change of robbery in a period such as a five-year period by deducting the old information from the new data, and then dividing it by the results from the old data. This provides a clear picture of changes in the incidences of robbery crimes in the city. I will use the data acquired to create a database or spreadsheet containing all the crime information. This will facilitate the investigation of exact robberies from all the reported crimes. Consequently, this will aid in the identification of regions characterized by high incidences of robberies hence, prioritization in the allocation of resources (Reyes, 2007).

Investigation Units I will use to assist the process

Using numerous investigation units across the city to provide accurate information on the crime rates will significantly facilitate the success of the process. This will comprise of the individual/personal units for analyzing crimes within the jurisdiction, ensuring each jurisdiction has an investigative unit, developing regular beat police and cops to monitor the city during daytime and the forensic team to aid in analyzing the data/information obtained from the field. In addition, I will hire extra patrol units to increase monitoring and surveillance within the city. All the patrol vehicles will have at least two police officers. They will be arresting suspects and maintaining law and order within their regions of operation. In addition, I will increase the number of surveillance cameras in the streets to aid in the recording of robbery cases committed in the city. Through this, I expect to see a significant reduction in the cases of daytime robberies in the city (Pepper, 2010).

Supplies and equipment I will purchase to the success of the investigation

In order to foster the success of my investigation, I will require computers and the GIS software to help in crime mapping. This will help significantly in saving time used for analyzing the information acquired in the field. Software, including Goldmine will be required to ensure proper management of records, Microsoft Access for crime analysis and provision of training of the police officers to minimize difficulties with using this software. In addition, I will increase the number of patrol police officers to increase the…
