The film also deals with the way that people respond to situations of life and death. Others would argue that the depth and intellectual range of a film like Titanic is not nearly as intensively "artistic" as Wild Strawberries. In other words, the suggestion is that there is an intrinsic difference between these two films. On the one hand I would agree that Wild Strawberries is much more complex and "artistic" film than a commercial film like Titanic. One of the reasons for this view is that Wild Strawberries demands a much more intensive response and is more thought-provoking than Titanic. On the other hand one also has to acknowledge that Titanic has moments of depth and insight, even though it is a more popular and purely entertaining film.

Commercial films on the other hand are more concerned with pandering to the popular views and perceptions of the time. This can be seen in many modern films that are little more than computer generated actions, which appeal only to the senses and not the intellect.
However, as the above
comparison has shown, this distinction between art and commercial film is often blurred in modern film making. There are many cases where it is difficult to distinguish in a definite way between these two categories.

Of course, I am incidentally exposed to non-commercial art throughout my day, as well. My home is decorated with original paintings by unknown artists, so I see art as I glance around my home. My work is also decorated with artwork, though the works there are reproductions of the works of famous artists. I also hear music during my commute to work, and my office plays jazz music in

Like many of the Pop Artists, Hockney frequently experimented with the media of his work, delving into both photography and film, and even set design. Photography, film, and other new media have proved to be a 'natural' outlet for Pop Artists. Since Pop Art cannibalizes the subject matter of popular culture, using the other tools of popular culture such as reproduction and the moving image seems like a natural progression.

Indeed, researchers such as Dr. Karen Hendricks have found that the artist's personality tendencies often match those of the schizotypal tendency. They see the world in detail, often rebel against the status quo, and attempt to provide the world with their unique ideas and thoughts. This tends to perpetuate the view of their personalities as slightly odd, or at least different from that of mainstream society. Being self-employed, individuals in

Some of the most awe-inspiring works of art are architectural such as the Lincoln Memorial, which bookmarks the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The Lincoln Memorial is impressive and its sheer magnitude and size

The spectator is unwittingly sutured into a colonialist perspective. But such techniques are not inevitably colonialist in their operation. One of the innovations of Pontocorvo's Battle of Algiers is to invert the imagery of encirclement and exploit the identificatory mechanisms of cinema in behalf of the colonized rather than the colonizer (Noble, 1977). It is from within the casbah that we see and hear the French troops and helicopters. This
