The training is effective on the grounds that team learns about (i) Disaster Preparedness: Under this team members are instructed to ready themselves and their neighborhoods for the various hazards which might catch them unaware (ii) Team organization & Disaster Psychology: Dealing with organization and management principles needed for a CERT to function effectively covering critical incident stress for the victims as also workers. The various reasons are (i) CERT Training support a collaborative effort between emergency services and the people inside the community. The CERT program equips people with practical knowledge regarding disaster preparedness for hazards which may strike their areas and trains them in fundamental disaster response skills like dealing with terrorism, WMD, fire accidents etc. (ii) In case a disastrous events devastates the community's professional response, CERT members can come to the rescue of others through the application of basic response and organization skills learned at the time of training....

These competencies can assist in the saving and sustaining lives in the aftermath of a disaster till assistance arrives. (iii) Individuals who undergo CERT training possess a better understanding of the potential hazards to their home, workplace, and community and can take the appropriate steps to ameliorate the impact of these hazards on themselves, their homes or workplace.
