Career Goals And The Role Application Essay

¶ … career goals and the role you see for this degree in reaching those goals.

More and more individuals and organizations are turning to accountants for advice and aid to deal with an increasingly complex regulatory system surrounding the field of accounting and financial services. For the past few years, I have worked for an accounting firm and had the great privilege of being exposed to a wide range of the many facets of this ever-expanding, challenging, yet fascinating field. I knew from my own anecdotal experience that the demand for accountants with master's degrees had increased, and later found that my impressions were born out in the most recent AICPA (American Institute of Certified Public Accountants) study, which reported that in 2004 there was a 13% increase in the number of new accounting graduates hired by public accounting firms with Bachelor's degrees, while there was a 33% increase of graduates hired by the same firms possessing a Master's degree in accounting

Marquette University's comprehensive accounting curriculum is impressive in its breadth and depth, and would give me a wide range of competencies in financial, tax-related, auditing, systems, government and not-for-profit accounting as well as managerial expertise. Like any person with interest in the financial services sector, I am interested in maximizing my value, in terms of the quality of my education and the value I hope to bring to my future clients upon graduation as a CPA (Certified Public Accountant). As an institution, Marquette possesses strong academic and ethical values, and I hope that I will be able to infuse this sense of obligation and commitment to excellence into all of my work. Accounting requires individuals who are detail-oriented regarding numbers and the unique needs of individuals and organizations, and who will uphold the ethical standards of the profession. Marquette will take my current skills, ethics, and commitment to my future vocation and hone these qualities to the point where I can feel confident of my professional expertise.
