Business System Proposal
This proposals will develop both software and hardware recommendations for the information technology solution. Thsi proposal is to help ESL adultstudents learn how to communicate with the teacher and be able to understand and not forget what the teacher tells them. This proposal will include costs (hardware, software, and staff), training, and timelines.
Hardware Recommendations.
The designer must be aware of what computer platforms (Mac, Windows, Linux, etc.) that his application must support and what percentage of learners will be using each platform. Also, the developer needs to be aware of the systems and equipment used by the potential users, for example, the CPU, available hard disk space, sound cards, CD-ROM drive and speed, speakers or headsets, and monitor resolution. How many of the users have Shockware, Flash, or advanced computer video systems. How many are connecting the Internet via modem or DSL. What are their connections. How many are AOL users?
These developer should have a pretty good idea of the answers to these questions before he starts developing the software. Accomodations may need to be made for the users who may not have a high-speed modem or are using DSL. For example, all graphics should be named and described in case the user's computers can not download the images. Special multimedia effects may have be reduced in the case that the hardware can not support it.
Software Recommendations
The computer-mediated tutorial will use self-guided practice as an instructional strategy. The web-based software program will be an interactive guide, providing step-by-step information on how to search the Internet. Background information will be presented before each lesson so that the student has sufficient understanding of the Internet concepts involved before attempting the guided exercises. The guided practice is designed for the student to complete on his own without assistance from adults. However, library personnel will be trained in the tutorial in order to assist students who may have questions. The guided computer-mediated instruction mentioned above will end with a self guided section in which students will take short quizzes pertaining to the specific information learned through guided practice. This will encourage the students to become more confident and independent in knowing and understanding the new information.
