Team chemistry: Analyze your results; determine the type of team player you are and discuss how it affects your working environment

By nature, I am an extremely enthusiastic team player. I enjoy the social aspects of working on a team and 'bouncing' ideas off of people. I think the best work is generated by the interpersonal synergy of a team environment. This makes me very different from someone who is very focused and task-oriented, who has trouble taking the time to joke, relax, and step back from the work we are doing, which is sometimes necessary to gain a perspective of what is really important for the team to do in service of the larger organization. However, I am willing to engage in frank discussion and even confrontation to make my voice heard, unlike someone who is accommodating and dislikes conflict. I will defend my opinions and take a stand when necessary, unlike someone who is meditative by nature and strives to preserve harmony at all costs.

Q2. Review your team interpersonal style evaluation. What most closely aligns with your style working?

My evaluation confirmed my suspicion that I am an enthusiastic type of team player. My evaluation reminded me of many other facets of my working style which resonates with this interpersonal approach. I am relationship-driven and thus I like working on a team. I feel fulfilled when I am exposed to the types of ideas and healthy debate generated in the presence of others. I know I am able to think of new ideas and strategies that do not occur to me alone, when I am surrounded by my team members.

I am persuasive and extroverted when advocating my point-of-view, but I am eager to listen to the contributions of others. I like the opinions of others to inform my own, and I believe I am able to grow as a person as a result of working with others. I know I am of greatest service to an organization when I am working on a team rather than sitting in a cubicle alone. Although my love of teamwork may not be common to all personality types, I feel certain in my conviction that teamwork adds something to all organizations, regardless of the personality profiles of its members, and I am determined to make team-based approaches to learning 'work.'
