¶ … Quantity and Quality

Describe the strengths and limitations of the provided data collection instrument for gathering data you need to evaluate the fitness course in the scenario provided.

The strength of the data collection instrument suggested is that it can be uniformly applied. The students are enrolled in three weeks each of five different activities for a total of fifteen weeks each. The research study will be for a period of three years meaning that at least ten groups of students can be utilized in the research and the same questionnaire can be used in all ten groups of students. The limitation is that with any survey, the results will be dependent on the reports of the participants of the study. Given that it is both a pre- and post- questionnaire, researchers must believe in the self-report of the individuals participating which allows for a great deal of fallibility (McKenzie 2013). The document chosen for this evaluation is effective as a tool for self-evaluation and that it is where it has the greatest strength and is of the most use to researchers.

2. Explain whether the instrument is an appropriate fit for the sample population and why.

Given the sheer number of students that will be involved in the research over the three-year period in which the research is conducted, surveys are a useful tool for researchers. Students who are reporting on their own activities are better able to observe their own behaviors and indicate their own perceptions on success and gains that they have made during the program.

3. Explain whether the survey instrument generates a sufficient quantity of quality data for conducting a program evaluation for the fitness program and why.
