ATM Withdrawal the Customer Inserts His/Her ATM

Last reviewed: December 5, 2012 ~3 min read

¶ … ATM withdrawal

The customer inserts his/her ATM card into the designated card reader slot of the machine. The card should face the right way when inserting it into the machine. The ATM then pulls the card inside the machine to read the magnetic stripe to identify the user. The card will only be valid if the magnetic stripe can read the users' card and if invalid the card is ejected and the session is then aborted.

If the card can be read, the customer is asked by the ATM to select the language to be used and there are various options to be chosen such as English, French and many others.

The user then enters the personal identification number (PIN), the PIN should have at least four digits.

If a wrong pin is entered by the customer, the transaction gets cancelled and the card is rejected by the machine and if the customer presses cancel instead of re-entering the PIN, the original transaction will automatically be cancelled. If a valid pin is entered, a menu of operation then pops up that allows the customer to perform transactions.

The user the selects the "Withdraw" when an ATM has prompted him/her in choosing which transaction the user would like to make.

The withdrawal transaction then asks the user the type of the account he/she would like to withdraw from. The transaction can be cancelled by the user when the cancel key is pressed.

If the transaction is cancelled by the user, or fails because of repeated entries of a wrong PIN, a screen will then be displayed which informs the customer the reason for the transaction failure, and the customer will be given another chance of doing another transaction.

The user then selects the amount of cash to be withdrawn. Some banks impose their daily limits of cash to be withdrawn, it is therefore necessary for the customer to be aware of the withdrawal limits before withdrawing any cash using ATM.

The ATM machine is then connected to the database of the bank so as to check whether the user or the customer has enough balance in the account for successful complete cash withdrawal.

The bank therefore approves the customers' transaction and any steps that are needed to complete his/her transaction.
