Admissions Don\'t Believe in Coincidences.

Last reviewed: July 9, 2005 ~3 min read

admissions don't believe in coincidences. Big or small, frightening or silly, coincidences have the power to change the course of our lives. Therefore they are always meaningful and never "just coincidence." I have also noticed that coincidences: whether momentary synchronicities or huge powerful revelations, occur more often during times of stress or emotional intensity. I had borne my first child at the tender age of sixteen, before many kids my age had even lost their virginity. Stress isn't even the work to describe my emotional state at the time: I was besieged with thoughts of suicide, despair: basically all the nightmares that would accompany the notion of becoming a mother before I learned how to take care of myself. Before I was pregnant, I was like the star at school, but suddenly I felt like a freak. When the full brunt of my situation hit me, I began to experience a wave of eerie coincidences that propelled me toward the caring professions and a counseling psychology career.

A first started by participating in peer counseling programs while I was in high school. Although I discovered teen counseling because I felt I needed help, it didn't take long for me to discover that helping others was part of the healing process. Once I came to terms with my reality, I continued to work with others by seeking employment at local health care facilities. Currently I am a patient care assistant at a local hospital, a position I dearly enjoy. I still get stressed out, especially when I go to work while my four-year-old is ill. Yet for some reason I always come home happy and satisfied.
