2. What is the purpose for using different levels of headings in a properly-formatted document and how do you know which heading to use?

A manuscript's introduction shall not be explicitly headed as "introduction." With the absence of "introduction" as a heading, the first portion is assumed to be an introduction. Do not use letters or numbers to label headings. Only use numbering to allow cross referencing and indexing.

The article's complexity and length will determine the heading you may choose to use. If the article needs just one level, level 1 is to be used. Use level 1 and level 2 if two levels of heading are needed. For 3 levels, use level 1, level 2 and level 3. Use this pattern for all other levels.

1. In your own words, explain what a DOI is. Why is it important to you as a researcher?

DOI is the acronym for Digital Object Identifiers. It was put together by some international publishers and provides a way to do persistent identification to aid in information management on digital networks. Its implementation is through registration agencies like Crossef. Crossef provides the publishing sector with citation linking services. DOI is important as it helps organizations achieve their missions like enabling easy and faster identification and the promotion of use of sustainable services and infrastructure.
