Family Health Assessment
This paper reflects upon the wellness diagnosis of my uncle's family. There are four family members in this family, consisting of parents (2 individuals), son and daughter. The report includes a questionnaire based upon the 11 health patterns and an analysis of their overall family health with nursing diagnosis.
The summary of the findings of the 11 heath patterns is described below:
The values and health perception of the family is below the standards healthy criteria since the mother of the family is suffering from severe defining of Vitamin D, the father suffers from diabetes and severe stomach problem and none of the children go to the gym.
The family does not consume alcohol but the father smokes on a regular basis. The family cannot be considered as 'healthy eaters' since they eat junk food twice or thrice a week. The mother considers herself a little overweight since she has to rest a lot due to her weakness issues.
The family members consider themselves well-rested and fit enough to perform daily activities, without any need to fall asleep again. The mother sometimes takes the help of pills to fall asleep.
4. There are no apparent elimination problems within the family.
5. The family neither works out, nor goes to any gym.
6. The entire family wears glasses, which means they have difficulty in seeing properly otherwise. There are no hearing impediments.
7. The members feel good about themselves and all of the others around them. They are satisfied with their lives.
8. The self-perception of each of the family members is quite strong and they have their respective strengths to take them a long way in their lives.
9. The parents said they grew in a combined family system while the children grew up in single family system. They like their respective social groups.
10. The parents said they have a satisfied sex life, and the daughter a normal menstruation cycle.
11. The family experienced trauma when one of their child faced unexpected death. The parents and siblings faced extreme stress and depression but they had each other to support and they came out of serious mental condition after some time. They are happy with their lives now.
Wellness Nursing Diagnosis
The wellness diagnosis (Weber, 2009, p. 337) that can be specified to the selected family is described below:
1. The parents of the family experience severe health problems and have to be careful in their diet intake. For example, the mother has to increase her intake of vitamin D so that her health problems, such as severe weakness and swelling on the feet are reduced. Foods like fatty fish, tuna, salmon, orange juice, soy milk, cereals, beef liver, cheese and egg yolks will be beneficial for the mother (Quittner, n.d.). The father can reduce his diabetes by being smart in choosing the sweets. Raw, cooked or roasted vegetables are the best way to eat low-carb diet so that sugar stays low. Mushrooms, onions, eggplant, tomatoes, and zucchini are some of the vegetables that the father can take advantage of (Friedman, n.d.). The green vegetables such as spinach and broccoli are beneficial with some seasoning of olive oil. Low-calorie drinks, tea or coffee should be consumed by the father so that sugar remains controlled. Moreover, other healthy drinks like cucumber and lemon drink, or green tea with some lemon and a little honey are the best beverages for the father.
2. The mother experiences sleeping problems, which can be mitigated by taking a warm bath before going to bed. This will relieve her from any possible tensions or stress throughout the day. According to the family background, the mother has severely suffered due to the loss of her son; therefore, she might still miss him and might have sleeping problems. Reading a book before bed, eating healthier diet, doing little work outs, practicing yoga before bed, drinking warm milk, and meditating can be some of the ways to make her feel better and fall asleep fast without taking any medications for that purpose (Haigh, n.d.).
3. The mother can look after her weight by following some healthy tips such as walking daily for 30-40 minutes, which will help her get sleep fast. Eating a high protein breakfast and other meals throughout the day will help her reduce weight fast. Avoiding sugary drinks and take only fresh fruit juices without sugar, choosing weight-loss foods such as oats, nuts, boiled vegetables, eating loads of fiber, and chewing food slowly are some of the valuable pieces of advice for her weight loss programs. Eating healthy will keep her healthy and will assist in sleeping well.
4. The father has smoking addiction, which can be worked out as well. A behavioral therapy can be designed with the help of a doctor. His counselor or doctor will help him make a quitting plan, find the triggers that motivate him for smoking and help in...
