Architect Frank Lloyd Wright went beyond even Ives's achievements. Sharing affection for the organic ideas of the American Renaissance before the Civil War and asserting that form and function were one, Wright developed the Prairie school of architecture. This tried to integrate the design of housing and the land it used and forced Americans to think more carefully about rapid urbanization. It changed things in this country on a political, social and economic level that helped this country to progress forward and become what it is today. History provides a wonderful building block upon which we can grow and expand. It gives us the insight into what worked and what didn't. The 20th century brought about a lot of change in this country, some for the good and some for the bad, but each thing had a lesson to be learned. Our only hope is that we can build off of what happened back then to make our country a better place to live in the 21st century.
