These recommendations give way to the action intervention as it is described in Part B of the case study. Here, the bureaucratic conflicts which Babbitt identified would be addressed by a multipart strategy that does not follow the recommendations produced by this account. Indeed, entering into the intervention, Babbitt pointedly eschewed his own observations by determining to bypass reorganization in favor of simply expanding the roles of those already in central leadership positions. The Intervention segment of the case study remarks that "In doing so, he described these office-holders as having responsibility for specific business areas.i The business areas included supply, maintenance, scientific and technological research, testing and evaluation, product support, and installations and support." (CTR1, 1)
This is an important point to remember as much of the case study in the intervention section concerns the relative success Babbitt would experience in pursuing his immediate agenda of altering the broader culture at AFMC. Instituting a rhetoric centered on cost-based resource use rather than budget-based resource use, Babbitt would take the aggressive stance that different units of the operation and the newly appointed Chief Operating Officers to whom they were beholden would now no longer manage budgets. Instead, they would define resource-based costs and work within the scope of these projections. And this would be further underscored the impetus for all COOs to pursue clear reductions in base-line cost. Babbitt was particularly praised by his superiors in the Air Force and the Department of Defense...
LEWIS SINCLAIR'S BABBITT- AMERICAN SOCIETY Lewis Sinclair's Babbitt is anything but an ordinary character and this is evident from the fact that Babbitt is now part of our general vocabulary. As Hutchison notes, "Babbitt" has become a term in our vocabulary for the philistine businessman" (Pg. 7). He is a true representative of American upper-middle class society. It is important to remember that Babbitt is not a middle class member as
Gender as Prison At first reading, Babbitt by Sinclair Lewis and Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale seem to have little to do with each other except for the very general fact that both novels have elements of social and political commentary in them. But, while the world's portrayed in these books are fundamentally different from each other, a closer reading suggests important intersections and congruences in the novels around the subject
Governmental acquisition can involve many different things. It is important for organizations that deal with governmental acquisition to understand why they do various things and what it is that they must do (Angelis, 35). This helps them not only comply with many of the financial management laws that have been created, as well as regulations dealing with these things, but it also helps manage costs as well (Angelis, 35). This
Alchemist Compared to "Tuck Everlasting" There have always been legends that a place or substance existed that would prolong the normal lifespan of a human. This goes beyond a simple health regimen or exercise. Famously, in the United States, one of these places was supposedly in Florida at a fountain of youth. But, no one was ever able to find it. Two of the substances were the philosopher's stone and the
FAA Pilot Rest Requirements On January 15, 2009, Captain Chesley Sullenberger successfully landed U.S. Airways Flight 1549, a scheduled commercial passenger flight from LaGuardia Airport in New York City to Charlotte/Douglas International Airport, Charlotte, North Carolina, onto the waters of the Hudson River after the plane, an Airbus A320-214, had been struck by a flock of birds which caused an immediate and complete loss of thrust in both engines. This is perhaps where Hoffman is most successful with the character, because he conveys the sense that while Raymond knows who Charlie Babbitt is, and while he knows there is a connection between them, Raymond does not have the sense of closeness or brotherly bond that Cruise's character needs. The full force of the disease that Raymond's personality is imprisoned within - and Hoffman does successful convey the sense
