Also, recipients must be carefully chosen so that those who receive scholarships will support the institution throughout their career and represent that institution via honorable social service or career success. Detecting promise early in a student's career can be difficult. However, experienced admissions committees can sense which applicants offer the greatest potential. Because I believe that academic records and resumes only offer a partial picture of an applicant's potential, I would rely strongly on their performance in interviews. If had the opportunity to ask the applicant questions, I would focus on the student's future goals. Their dreams might illuminate their character in ways a written track record cannot. Some students are shy or have trouble expressing themselves in writing. Therefore, an interview allows all applicants to share parts of themselves that might not be evident elsewhere in their application.

All alumni owe a certain degree of gratitude to the university that shaped their future careers, goals, values, and body of knowledge. Scholarship applicants are even more indebted to the institution and the specific fund that helped them get their wealth of information while at school that might not be available to them otherwise. Scholarship applicants should especially declare their appreciation for what their alma mater has done for them personally and professionally.
Besides donating as much as possible to the scholarship funds that supported them, recipients also have a responsibility to serve that fund by volunteering for special events, interviewing future applicants, or participating in any external organizations that the fund supports. Another way recipients can show their gratitude is by performing service for the law school itself. Volunteering when possible, becoming active members of clubs, groups, and committees, and helping fellow students are some of the ways scholarship recipients can actively display their appreciation.

One of the most important actions scholarship recipients can take is to remain dedicated to their career goals. The scholarship awards future promise. Therefore, alumni should fulfill that promise by pursuing an honorable career in law. Providing pro bono work would be an ideal way to express appreciation. Because the name of the law school and the name of the scholarship fund will follow that individual throughout their careers, any recipient becomes a spokesperson for the institutions that supported them.
