Explain in detail any duty or responsibility you have which occupies at least 25% (ex: 2 hrs/day or 10 hrs/week or more) of your time.

The duties include being responsible for establishing and maintaining the Directorates vision, strategy, and security program to ensure and safeguard, people, information, and equipment. Develops, implements, and maintains security processes across the Directorate to reduce information and information Technology (IT) risks. I respond to incidents, establish appropriate standards and controls, manage security technologies, and direct the establishment and implementation of policies and procedures related to security. I also manage and assure the appropriate security levels for federal government and contractor employees, which are defined and in compliance with positions for each individual. The position as requires that I frequently provide plans, organize and exercise the management of security controls over the effective use of the organization's resources to achieve organization goals and objectives, in addition to routine customer needs.

2. Describe the knowledge and skills required to perform the duties/responsibilities.

The primary skills utilized include managing the appropriate security levels for federal government and contractor employees, which are pre-defined, and ensure individuals are in compliance in all related positions; constructing plans and organizing and exercising the management of security controls, ensuring the effective use of the organization's resources to achieve organization goals in addition to customer needs; establishing priority, assigning work, adjusting assignments, and directing workflow to make efficient use all resources; networking and maintaining a professional working relationships with a number of individuals outside of the organization. It is also required that I participate in ongoing education to stay knowledgeable of all relevant laws and security regulations and procedures applicable to the organization.

3. How is work assigned to you? How and how often is completed work checked or reviewed?

Work is handled independently according to established policies which consist of the Air Force Instructions and generally accepted practices that are used; a set of procedures defined not only by the Air Force Instructions, but also the Department of Defense Manuals. The standards established are reviewed for accuracy through self-inspections and ongoing training. Also, handling complaints and or concerns from Senior Leadership as well as other members of A5/8 are a high priority. Beyond the basic assigned requirements, this position necessitates availability for consultation to resolve security incidents or issues and quickly identify the appropriate response measures.

Explain work situations where the guidelines are inadequate when performing your work, and how you overcome this.
These guidelines are generally applicable, but in dealing with problems related to unusual situations, I often refer to the Wing Information Protection, Special Security Office, and or the Office of Special Investigation for further clarification. However, if the problem is technical in nature, then a different approach will be required depending on the identification of where the needed technical expertise can be sourced.

6. How do you identify what needs to be accomplished in the performance of your work assignments?

It is typically the case that we are given objectives that are defined in a strategic nature and we have to translate these into more tactical objectives. Therefore, building an effective strategy for defining the scope of the work is often required. To this end, I typically write down daily/weekly/longs in terms of what needs to be accomplished and this effort helps to prioritize the workload. Furthermore, I constantly review notes and these notes also help to identify the resources (people or things) required to get the job done.

7. Describe the difficulty encountered and originality required when performing your work assignments.

Given the complexity inherent in many of the work assignments, it takes effective management and leadership skills to build a reliable scope to operate within. Each challenge can be unique and it often takes a great deal of creativity in overcoming novel problems that frequently occur i.e. security incidents.

8. Describe the purpose of your work. Include any conclusions reached, decisions or recommendations made; treatment or service provided; reports written, results of tests or research performed, and approval or denials made.

The purpose of my work is to provide HQ A5/8 guidance and support for developing operational procedures that take into full account appropriate security considerations and measures at all times.

9. What is the direct impact of the work product or service? (Ex: work impacts individuals in the organization, impact to multiple bases across a MAJCOM, etc.)

The programs developed and managed will contribute materially to the effective implementation of the A5/8 security classification program. The security standards established will have a direct impact on the performance of hundreds of government employees that create or handle classified national security information, and an indirect impact on the performance of hundreds of government contractor personnel, who also work with classified national security information. These requirements will have a direct impact on operations at several different levels of the organization.

10. Who or what benefits from the work you perform?

All of A5/8 personnel will benefit directly from the work performed; including established and implemented Procedures, Security Manager's Continuity, physical site surveys, safeguard measures, Foreign Disclosure guidelines, logistics, administration and surety actions, which are all put into place for others to follow and maintain while performing their objectives.
