Last reviewed: January 13, 2013 ~4 min read

¶ … searching for a job. Hopefully I will have a job already. I see myself as more confident in the direction of my life; knowing better what I wish to do with my life; and having more of the skills to accomplish these things. I also see myself as having more resources and experiences that can better equip me for a job in my chosen field. These skills and knowledge will give me more of the confidence and make me a better candidate for specific job opportunities. I will also be more aware of what it is that I really want to do as well as my strengths and weaknesses in this particular field, I will have a larger network and greater maturity in general. This greater maturity will make me more resilient and better able to deal with possible challenges that come in my path/.

What are your goals in life? My goals in life are to get educated to have a good job. The education that I envision is not just the theoretical, college-based education that gives me the academic base and qualifications, but also -- and equally important -- the practical education that comes with translating the theoretical knowledge in practice, with communication with others, with dealing with others, with knowing how to find and retain jobs, and with general self-improvement both in and out of the job. In other words, I hope to become an educated person, but at the same time I would like to learn how to make an important difference in the lives of others and how to use my skills and learning for doing so. I would also like to use my talents to the utmost and learn how to develop all that I have to make both myself and the world a better place. What are your positive characteristics? My positive characteristics are that I never give up. This is, arguably, the most important characteristic since it feeds into all others. I am determined and resilient. I am decisive. If I wish something, I go for it regardless of knocks; I also know when to give up. Persistence and perseverance gets you place. I, therefore, see this quality as valuable and am proud of it. What are your negative characteristics? My negative characteristics chiefly consist of the fact that I put stuff to the side and don't finish till much later, namely that I procrastinate. This disables me from marching ahead with my dreams. So on the one hand, I am persistent but paradoxically enough I am also hampered by my tendency to procrastinate. I have tried strategies such as goal-setting and incentives. Procrastination is still my problem. Why is education so important? Education is important because it helps you to make it in life. Yes, there are historical accounts of people who have been able to succeed without education, and the reverse -- highly educated people who fail. Nonetheless, education can help you. It can provide you with the rudiments of critical thinking as well as with the ability to be more tolerant of others -- exactly important- since you realize that your view is limited and small, and that there is a plethora of equally valid views in the world. Education also provides you with the skills to express yourself, to promote your views, and to influence others. Finally, but not conclusively, I believe that ignorance can be the harbinger of much evil and wrong in the world. Ignorant people often believe that they are superior to others and that their ideas are THE truth. Education shatters that opinion. It makes you more humble since it amplifies your weaknesses and shows you how much further you have to grow. It provides you with the tools and contrasts to realize your dream.
