Shrek Modern Myth Storytelling Is
Pages: 2 Words: 643

Shrek is a "search" story because it involves a quest for treasure -- externally, Shrek is after the Princess and is seeking the reward of being left at peace in his swamp, and on a more profound level the film shows both he and Fiona on to be quests to discover themselves and their capacity for love and self-acceptance that they didn't really now they were on. Both internal and external searches find strong origins in myth (Seger, 1). It is also a hero story about overcoming prejudice against the fairy tale creatures (one of the best scenes is the brutal interrogation of a gingerbread man who is a member of the resistance), with Shrek as the primary hero. The film is nontraditional in that the hero never starts out as mundane, but ultimately gains a "normal" existence (Seger, 2).
Despite the high level of mythical identification that is possible…...

A person in a state of cognitive dissonance will strive to look for ways of reducing the dissonance he or she is feeling since it is uncomfortable. educing cognitive dissonance may entail a change in behavior, modification of perceptions, or addition of a cognition that is consistent with a person's behavior.
Cognitive dissonance is demonstrated in the movie Shrek in the scene where we see Shrek struggle with his feelings for Fiona. He tries to deny the attraction that he is feeling towards Fiona. He tries to convince himself that he is not worthy of Fiona because he is an ogre and she is a princess. In this process, he is trying to settle the dissonant thoughts in his head. shrek is it a comedy and why answering questions
Pages: 2 Words: 725

The film Shrek is a lighthearted animated movie produced by DreamWorks. Shrek can also be classified as a family movie, not only because it is animated but also because the plot, themes, and dialogue are suitable for children of all ages. At the same time, Shrek contains enough sophistication to please an adult audience, too. It is funny, albeit in a straightforward and occasionally formulaic way that includes the use of slapstick and situational comedy as well as verbal comedy. The movie does, however, use satire to make fun of the gendered tropes used in childrens fairy tales. The film follows the title character, a green ogre who lives in a swamp. Shrek starts off mistrusting the world, having learned that people judge him based on his appearance rather than getting to know him. However, Shreks life changes forever when he embarks on a quest to rescue a princess. At first…...

STATEMENT OF FACTS

Shrek the Ogre has for a fair amount of years, owned a property near the swamps -- a place more or less undesirable by the rest of the community of the town. He has lived a quiet existence, keeping out of everyone way, and in this regard has been a model citizen. He has made the claim on the property known in no clearer terms by posting signs which indicate that the property belongs to him, and any intrusion of any sort would not be appreciated. He stresses a great deal of importance for the need of privacy and therefore prefers this seclusion.

Beautiful Is Good Although Present
Pages: 2 Words: 560

The ancient story involving Eros and Psyche also deals with the concept of beautiful as being equivalent to good. Psyche is tricked into thinking that her lover is actually a serpent who actually wants to consume her and her child when it will need to be fed. Even with the fact that she is familiar with her husband's character, Psyche listens to her sisters and cannot possibly live with him as long as she envisions him as a monster. This demonstrates that humanity had long considered this debate and related to it with the purpose of having people understand that beauty does not necessarily make a person better, as he or she should be simply judged on account of his or her attributes.

One is likely to experience a lot of episodes involving people appreciating other people on account of their beauty throughout his or her life. Employers often act on…...

What Can We Do to Reduce Hate and Violence in Ourselves and Our Society
Pages: 3 Words: 1027

Hate and Violence
Perhaps one of the greatest challenges we face in the United States today is the need to reduce hate and violence in ourselves and our society. As a teacher in a juvenile detention facility, I have struggled with ways to teach children nonviolent approaches to conflict, and the importance of tolerance and respect for others. This paper will describe student responses to a movie program designed to teach core values of non-violence and tolerance, and discuss these findings in the larger context of the juvenile criminal justice system and society.

In my last eight years as a teacher at a juvenile detention facility, I have struggled to find meaningful ways to reach my students. Students are often highly resistant to both authority and advice from sources that they initiated a Friday afternoon movie program at the juvenile detention facility as a way to encourage nonviolence as a literary study.…...

Suppose that you start a business manufacturing and selling bicycles, and it costs you $5,000 to get started. You determine that each bicycle will cost

$400 to manufacture. Explain why the linear equation gives your total cost to manufacture x bicycles ( in dollars).

x= number of bicycles sold y= total cost to manufacture x number of bicycles

The linear equation representing that relationship would be: y= 5000 + 400x.

A linear equation gives the total cost to manufacture x bicycles because it accounts for the $5,000 in start-up costs and then adds in the $400 per bicycle cost.

You decide to sell each bike for $600. What expression…...

A movie based on the theme of self-love is the animated comedy called Shrek, about an ugly green ogre who's on a quest to rescue a princess for the egocentric lord who simply wants her because he feels she is perfect for his kingdom. However, Shrek sees the inner beauty in the princess and they develop mutual respect and also fall in love. Although, this movie is based on the concept of self-love, it also deals with the importance of couples accepting each other as they regardless of the faults they have in each other.

As for myself, I always willingly acknowledge my own self as the principal cause of every good and of every evil which may befall me; therefore I have always found myself capable of being my own pupil, and ready to love my teacher.

Artists in Film in Believe

Even five years ago, this was not the case. Moore uses his own brand of investigative, and sometimes highly charged and emotionally biased journalism to make his points. He causes people to violently disagree with his determinations, but he causes people to think, something that many filmmakers simply avoid. Moore's documentaries are more than entertainment, they get people talking about and investigating issues on their own. His message may not appeal to everyone, but his methods are some of the best in filmmaking. He creates films that people remember, and this is an important aspect of the process. He uses emotional, controversial, social, and meaningful themes to "stir the pot," and will certainly be one of the 21st centuries most remembered filmmakers.

The question as to what is more influential in affecting children's predilections for unhealthy food -- taste or packaging -- would be more useful to explore, but was not fully brought to light within the construct of the study, given that children were offered an choice between two identical assortments of sweet treats and vegetables at the same time.
The focus on cartoons advertising children's food is a distraction, says McWilliams, from the more difficult-to-control pressures that do influence childhood obesity. Parents that can afford healthy foods and parents that have the time and the energy to ensure their children have safe places to exercise tend to have slimmer children. It is easier to ban cartoon advertising for cookies, politically, then to end subsidizes to industrialized farms that make cheap, sweet corn syrup used in processed snack foods and to make urban areas safe places to play. Advertising Impact on American's Bad
Pages: 7 Words: 2227

So, advertising is not just bad because it lures us into eating unhealthy diets, the diets to lose some of the weight we gain are just as bad. Why? ecause they teach fast weight loss -- lose 10 pounds in two weeks. Is that possible? Yes, but it's usually "water" weight -- that weight that is most quickly put back on when we go back to a normal diet. ut just as the ads and promos don't tell us about all the calories in those RTE cereals and fast foods, when they push the fad diets, they don't mention that "water" weight problem.
And, sure enough, that's why people on fad diets eventually get frustrated. They lose ten pounds in a couple or three weeks, go back to their regular diet, and gain it right back. Eventually, the frustration level reaches a point that they give up and go have…...

"I have to confess -- I have an emotional connection to this brand," admitted one adult, female NPR commentator, reviewing the film, stating that it was impossible for her to give an objective review of "Kit Kittredge, American Girl" because of her own love of the Kristen doll, as a girl, a doll that had traveled far from Sweden to settle in colonial America (Baker 2008).
