Outreach
A community outreach initiative should be implemented in which high school students who have struggled with discipline will go to nursing homes to cook for and eat with elderly residents on a weekly basis. Students with discipline issues are targeted for this program because the program will aim to take them out of their troubled environments and give them both structure in their lives and positive interactions with the community. This solution will not only benefit the troubled students, but also the elderly residents of the nursing home, who often lack for companionship.

If one has to put on the back burner that Picasso was a cubist for the sake of challenging a child to look at a painting and just experience it, than so be it. The very act of simply experiencing the art of an artist can have profound effects on the thought process of children as well as adults. This possibility has had a profound impact on the needs that I think the community -- especially these school children -- possesses. Being a tutor implies a certain type of behavior and activity; tutors instruct their students in academic areas and help them solve specific issues and/or problems one at a time. I think that what this particular segment of the community needs is more accurately described as a mentor. In addition to extra assistance with academic instruction and learning, the children I observed during my time as their tutor really need a regular influence in their life to help them build confidence and self-esteem along with helping them improve their skills. Pitch for Implementing Community Outreach

This community outreach initiative will be an effective one because it will be mutually beneficial to both the elderly folks and the students, thereby engendering a sense of solidarity within the community. This project will be productive since the kids will gain a sense of compassion for the elderly; at the same time, sharing a meal and conversing with the kids will help maintain the lucidity of the elderly. Nevertheless, there are a number of potential challenges that face such a project.

First, it will undoubtedly be difficult to convince these area youths to help the elderly; the vast majority of those selected for the project will have a poor disciplinary record…...

All of these facts support the need for better rehabilitation programs to prevent increased recidivism among ex-offenders (Western, 2003). Health Promotion Lesson Plan
The concept of health promotion is thought of as "the science and art of helping people change their lifestyle to move toward a state of optimal health" (Dunphy et al., 2011, p 25). Serious heart conditions can be prevented, which is why it is so important to utilize community education techniques in order to help try to warn community members of the complications before they occur. This current lesson plan works to create three separate community lesson plans, based on specific age ranges. The age 18-29 focuses primarily on the use of social media and health advocacy efforts in association with the American Heart Association. For ages 30-49, there is also a focus on these two, combined with more community oriented issues, and for 50-60, there is much more of a focus on financial training along with community organized workshops.
