Census Helps Show How to Divy Up Funds
Pages: 1 Words: 432

Census ResponseThe census is very important for many reasons. One main reason is that it helps with fair representation. By counting the population, the census helps to decide how many seats each state gets in the U.S. House of Representatives. It also helps to draw new boundaries for local, state, and federal lawmakers. This makes sure that people are represented fairly in the government.Another reason the census is important is that it helps governments decide where to spend money. Census data shows how many people live in different areas, so governments can give more money to places with more people. This helps to build schools, hospitals, and other public services where they are needed most (Tousignant). The census also helps with planning and development. By knowing how many people live in an area and what their needs are, governments and businesses can plan for the future. This might mean building new…...

imagery in the movies Chinatown and Blade unner and compare the film-noir type of imagery against the actual statistics available in the latest Census results from Los Angeles that characterize the complexion of Los Angeles in 2010. In all three arenas, we see a Los Angeles area that is multi-ethnic, grime and dirt included. In many ways, while the movie imagery is different, in many ways all three characterizations have more in common than have differences. In all three portraits, the dirty, gritty and repressive city scape has the potential to swallow up the inhabitants in the Los Angeles darkness that is almost as thick as palpable as the ninth Egyptian plague of darkness. The films accurately and effectively discuss the "feel" of the city and the city's neighborhoods. The author will provide examples from the films to illustrate this, as well as the similarities and differences.

Community Assessment About Scarsdale NY
Pages: 7 Words: 2001

Neighborhood as Community: Scarsdale, New York
With a per capita income of $113,000, a median household income of $230,750, a median sales price of a single-family home of $1.34 million and one of the leading school districts in the state, the Village of Scarsdale is a relatively exclusive suburb of New York City that has a poverty level that even other affluent communities envy. Using an ecosystems perspective, this paper provides a review of the literature as well as online government resources to describe the demographics, available social networks, income and wealth distribution, an assessment of the educational resources, housing, health and welfare issues, as well as formal and informal control systems. An ecosystems perspective merges general systems theory and ecology to provide insights concerning the interactions between individuals and various aspects of their social environment (Tangenberg, 2009) to determine adaptations of the neighborhood over time, the interface of the…...

Today, though, there are over 69,461 supermarkets competing nationally for a share of the American consumer food dollar. (de Zuniga, Mencia Manso., 2001, 1-2)
Socially, the rise of the Hispanic population is propelling their cultural mores into mainstream acceptance. There has been the advent of media TV channels specifically catered to the Hispanic market by only screening programs that solely speak Spanish. Many jobs now have the requirement for the candidate to speak more than one language (e.g. English and Spanish), and the census even allows respondents to put down more than one nationality in relation to their cultural identity. (Rural Migration News, 1998, 1) Concerning health care, Hispanics suffer some diseases more profoundly than other cultural groups in the population because they are not as medically aware. Also, compounded with the language barrier, older Hispanics who don't understand English tend to bring their children in to translate and the situation can get a little difficult explaining to a child what is medically wrong with the adult. Finding New Markets for Handset Telephones

Analysis of the American Telephone Handset Market

Telephone handsets, once a symbol of upward mobility and continued affluence in the United States have been replaced by the cell phone and smart phone where today they are more seen with nostalgia. The cannibalization of the handset market has gained momentum as the adoption of cell phones and smart phones have accelerated in the most affluent customer segments first followed by broader, larger and more middle-income market segments (U.S. Census Bureau, 2009). What continues to be the catalyst of growth for cell phone and smartphone growth is the ability to complete multiple functions on a mobile device including texting, web browsing and taking and sending pictures (U.S. Census Bureau, 2009). The multifunctional nature of the cell phones and smartphones has led to the quick demise of the telephone…...

They can help inform decision-making processes and reveal important details about how the market is functioning. Understanding that e-commerce transactions are significantly related to total retail purchases could allow e-commerce individuals to make different decisions regarding their businesses. For instance, an e-commerce merchant who also has a "real" retail store may wish to correlate his online sales with his in-store sales. If such a merchant were to discover that his correlation was falling well below that of the one found here based on overall U.S. Census data, he may determine that he is not meeting his potential for sales in the e-commerce world. For example, if this individual found that his e-commerce sales were correlated with his in-store sales at a much lower level, such as a correlation of less than .4, this merchant may decide to invest more money into his e-commerce business in an attempt to increase…...

In other words, it is more effective and less costly to retain an employee by offering them medical insurance for their domestic partners, instead of recruiting and hiring new employees.
Third, and probably most important, the costs of covering medical expenses for domestic partners are minimal upon the company. Several studies have revealed that offering insurance benefits for domestic partners generates cost increase for the company in the amount of one or even less per cent - less that the costs of hiring new employees or facing judiciary trials for discrimination.

Assessment and Diagnosis

Diagnosis
The relevance of maintaining healthy communities cannot be overstated. In basic terms, communities should be designed and maintained in a way that promotes the well-being of their inhabitants. In so doing, such communities could end up realizing not only the economic but also the social benefits of a happier, healthier, and more productive society. There is therefore a need to assess and diagnose the key health problems specific to various communities. This way, lasting and innovative solutions can be sought and implemented to rein in the identified health problems.

Still, in this situation, it is clear that Miami would need the largest workforce with the greatest capabilities to serve a more diverse residential population. With such a large portion of the population being Hispanic in the city of Miami, FedEx operations would have to concentrate on providing customers with Spanish speaking staff. Additionally, the facilities at FedEx locations would also have to anticipate a workforce that may not speak English as its first language. Thus, managers and training materials would also have to be available in Spanish to best maximize workforce efficiency within FedEx locations around the Miami Dade area.
There are several different strategies FedEx could take to suit each of these different markets. First, as stated before, having a bilingual workforce would be a key component in the city of Miami. I believe the market is simply too small for continued growth to occur.
In regards to Surrey British Columbia, I also believe it to be a viable option for FedEx, but not to the extent of Miami. For one, Surrey has a population of 394,976 people which makes it the provinces second most populous city (5). The economy is fast growing and has a significant upside potential. Because of this fact, I believe Surrey to be a better option than St. Johns. Industries that are growing quickly are Clean Energy, Finance, eal estate, High Technology, Advanced Manufacturing, Health, and Education (6). I believe the sectors of interest for FedEx are manufacturing, real estate and technology as they can either provide business possibilities or opportunities for joint ventures. Unlike the other two locations however, FedEx may want to defer entry into this market until the technologies actually come to fruition. This…...

How Maps Lie: Distortions, Manipulations, and the Power of Cartography

Maps, ubiquitous tools for navigating the world, often convey the illusion of objective truth. However, beneath their seemingly innocuous surface lies a complex interplay of distortions and manipulations that can profoundly alter our perception of space and reality.

Scale: The Art of Manipulation

Scale, the ratio between the size of an object on a map to its actual size, is a crucial tool for mapmakers. By scaling down distances, maps can represent vast areas on a manageable page. However, this seemingly innocuous adjustment can lead to significant distortions. For instance, a map of....
