Plavix and other drugs like it keep the blood from getting "sticky" in that they stop platelets from sticking together. That can keep a person from developing a clot, and can also help to prevent buildup in the arteries. Aspirin helps to reduce inflammation, keeping the blood vessels open and giving less of an opportunity for anything to stick to the vessel walls.
