Most of the relationship between African and Western European nations revolves around trade. These trade relations began when exploration of the seas and other continents brought European settlers and explorers in contact with African nations, many of which were already trading with others. As time went on, trade routes became more established and the items traded between the two areas grew. Now, trade still remains strong because both nations have many items and natural resources that the other nation does not possess.
