The term global perspective actually has a few different meanings, depending on the discipline.  It can refer to an individual’s personal lens and how they view the globe; to various perspectives about an issue from around the globe; and to views linked to globalization and the impact of individual or nation-wide actions on the world and its inhabitants.   We are going to provide a range of topic suggestions that incorporate all of these different definitions of global perspectives, with the most suggestions coming from the last topic, as it is the most commonly used across academic disciplines.

A-levels Global Perspective Essay Topics

  1. How widening the lens of one’s global perspective can help the individual better understand their initial perceptions and reactions to others.
  2. Examining global warming from a global perspective with the goal of trying to understand why a looming crises for some countries is still ignored by others.
  3. Is child labor an essential part of industrialization and development?  Child labor has been part of most countries’ history as they have transitioned to industrialization, but the modern day concern with child labor results in boycotting companies that use these children.  Is that ultimately harmful or helpful to the children involved and to the development of their countries?
  4. Is feminism necessary for democracy: it possible to label a nation as a free nation if it does not fully support rights for women?
  5. Has cultural identity become more or less important as the world has become more globalized?
  6. Should sustainability always be a core feature of any program?  Is it possible to get people invested in sustainability when their economy currently depends upon unsustainable or environmentally-damaging industries, goods, or services?
  7. Are we truly all connected?  To what extent do individual choices impact the social, economic, and political lives of others?
  8. Intervening in human rights violations?  At what point should international organizations such as the United Nations intervene when a country is violating human rights?  Is it ever okay to risk human life in order to protect human rights?
  9. Globally, the number of wars and violent conflicts has been declining since the Cold War, but international and domestic terrorism both seem to have been increasing during that same time period.  Does the research support that conclusion, and, if so do you believe there is a relationship between the two?
  10. To what extent do imperialism and colonialism continue to impact native people?  (This could be a large topic that looks at multiple indigenous groups or more narrowly tailored to focus on a particular indigenous group).
