World War I: A Senseless Essay

Resultantly, a great portion of 1915 was controlled and dominated by Allied actions against the Ottomans. France and Britain reportedly launched an unsuccessful attack on the Dardanelles, and this campaign was subsequently followed by the British invasion of the Gallipoli Peninsula. The Peace Treaty of Versailles was considered controversial and is still considered controversial today. The reason it was initially seen as controversial is because it was 'too great a departure' from then President Wilson's Fourteen Points and was seen by the British as too stringent and harsh in its treatment of Germany. What leads to the Peace Treaty being considered controversial today is that scholars often argue that the punitive nature of the terms of the Treaty were in support of the rise of the Third Reich in Germany in the 1930's and the Nazis, which then led to the start of World War II.
World War 1 ended after several years with Germany surrendering and Europe being decimated. An armistice or cease-fire agreement was signed which was made effective November 11, 1918. The armistice required German forces to leave their positions and go back to their home country. What was inevitably accomplished by the war, if anything remains debatable and questionable. That is why so many question whether World War 1 was a senseless concept.
