Alright, one more time, she insisted. My younger sister persisted, so I threw her another ball. We played baseball for hours in the afternoon heat, our sweat drenching our clothes, parching us and making dinner sound all the more inviting. As the sun set, I pondered her progress.
You've learned a lot today, haven't you?" I called out. As the ball landed squarely in her glove, I smiled, knowing that our work was done and we could head inside heartily in time for dinner.
I had been teaching her how to catch for weeks, since she was trying out for her junior varsity team. Like me, my sister's heart was set on playing to her optimal ability, maximizing her innate talents. Our natural rapport inspired me and eventually led to my interest in pursuing an Associate's Degree in Physical and Health Education. A natural athlete, I also tended to be more patient than most people and truly enjoyed the process of teaching and watching other people learn and grow. My feeling of satisfaction intensified when I worked long and hard with someone like my sister, someone who put her heart into her sport and tried her best to overcome obstacles like low self-esteem and anxiety.
When I first entered Brookdale Community College, I knew I wanted to eventually teach physical education because I had a knack for both teaching and for sports. As I understood more about what the profession entailed, I became more passionate about pursuing my goals, for I realized that I could make a difference in people's lives. Working with my sister is something I probably would have done anyway, but the notion that I could assist other students push their limits and excel athletically sparked my desire to obtain a higher degree. Therefore, I am seeking admission to Kean University's Physical and Health Education and Teaching program. My immediate goals are to work with the staff and faculty at Kean to glean as much as possible about the basics of the field, while my long-term goals are to secure a professional position with an educational institution so that I can help kids like my sister live healthy, productive lives. I believe my academic credentials and transcript will speak for themselves and will illustrate that I am uniquely qualified to meet the rigorous standards of the program. Thank you for your consideration.
