It's core competencies in supply chain management, logistics, distribution center and operations management set a global standard in their industry (Stevenson, 2009). The company also has an exceptional level of expertise and skill in launching their supercenters in any location that has the demographic mix of customers that will support its operations. Opening supercenters and getting them profitable while also using these locations as distribution centers in their logistics networks is what Walmart does exceptionally well (Stevenson, 2009). Given the sheer magnitude of their operations however, they inevitably impact the local economies they enter into in both a positive and negative way.
