¶ … Effective Communication Working Style

The relevance of measuring one's preference when it comes to learning, collaboration, as well as getting things done cannot be overstated. As per the assessment, my working style is execute. In basic terms, my working style means that I have what it takes to follow things through. In addition to being effective in the implementation of plans developed in the examine dynamic, I have a knack for forcing action and take pride in the accomplishment of tasks. It is important to note that my ability to delegate could be of great relevance when it comes to the promotion of better results. Another key strength of my working style has got to be that I do not shy away from challenging tasks. Instead, I focus on finding the most viable solutions so as to win. I may, however, be poor in promoting an idea in an attempt to get colleagues to support the same, i.e. excite. In essence, this means that I could, in some instances, fall behind schedule as I seek to get others behind an idea. Also, my working style means I may not be an effective planner, have an eye for detail (traits for those whose working style is evaluate) and/or be efficient in the development of ideas -- thus the need to perhaps pair with those who do not share the same trait as I.

In selecting a teammate for a class project, I would have the option of choosing an individual who has a similar working style to mine, or one whose working style differs from the one I have. From a strategic point of view, it would be better to choose the later. Having individuals who complement our strengths is key to success (5 Dynamics, 2017). In that regard, therefore, the explore working style would enable us to explore the best ideas and solutions for the class project, which when paired with the ability to follow through on tasks would enable us to complete such tasks in good time, hence further enhancing our performance on the said project.
Part 2: Communication

Most conversations could be categorized into any of the four quadrants of what is referred to as the conversation meter. The conversation meter, in basic terms, seeks to "help people diagnose when conversations are on or off track, predict likely outcomes if the conversation continues as it is, and prescribe potential new and beneficial responses to improve outcomes" (Conversant Solutions, 2017). In my listening, I tend to make use of the accuracy mode. This is to say that as I listen, I tend to maintain eye contact and in most cases seek mental verification or confirmation of the points being put across. For instance, when holding a conversation with a friend, I could later on find myself 'googling' their responses as a way of fact-checking. This effectively means that I do not accept any info at face value. My focus on accuracy has, however, in some instances resulted in conversations veering off their original path largely due to my inquisitive nature. Although some people could take my approach to listening as second-guessing, I believe seeking accuracy adds value to interactions.

In expressing myself through verbal communication, I tend to be sincere. This effectively means that I focus more on being convincing. Most times, I mean what say and have strong belief in the same. It is for this reason that I strongly defend my opinions. One downside to my talking mode is that I could have sincere belief in things that are not necessarily accurate and end up being defensive of a faulty opinion.
