¶ … transformational leadership within the healthcare industry in the contemporary society. The article starts out by implying that changes in leadership are needed within the healthcare systems. The author puts out that in the corporate environment today healthcare systems lag behind the times as providers of a product to a consumer group that is very diverse hence high demands and pressure on the providers. Changes in the face of workplaces have required use of appropriate and effective strategies for communication. However it is has been noted that within the healthcare sector the implementation of new initiatives in nursing management has been slow. The key issue when it comes to changes in healthcare system is those who provide care directly to patients. Management of nursing is at the edge of change and is positioned in such a way that it will positively transform hospital environment through puling this dinosaur into the new era of strategies in leadership. The author also highlights the effect of transformational leadership when it comes to the levels within healthcare system. Even though management and behaviors of leaders are different it is important to note that management always strives to ensure that good leadership prevails. An example is provided of how strategies that leaders use have a direct impact on the satisfaction of the staff and also impacts directly the satisfaction of patients. The author states that there is a direct relationship between nursing care and satisfaction of a patient. Therefore, nursing care is significant when it comes to the overall satisfaction of patients thus it increases the likelihood of patients going back to provider or even giving recommendations of the provider to friends and relatives. The author also takes a closer look at transformational leadership. He points out communication as being at the core of effective leadership and management.

The author notes that administrative side of healthcare has shifted the focus from care of patients thus leading to neglect of the mission and vision of the healthcare system. Today, the mission of nursing is the providence of excellent patient care. Therefore nurse managers need to have well-honed critical thinking processes that will help achieve transformational leadership. Therefore, the author states that managers have to make sure that they are educated about transformational leadership qualities emphasizing that education techniques which transform the healthcare systems are therefore very important.
The current nursing shortage has brought some challenges such as the fact that a nurse who performs well at a bedside is expected to perform well in management too. However, what people fail to understand is that without formal training this can be very devastating in the healthcare organization, both on the individual and the institution. Therefore the author points out that it is important for top-level administration to look at specialized training for nurse managers. Manager and leadership role should thus be brought back graduate programs for nurses and have to be compensated at levels equal to others that hold positions with similar responsibilities. Nursing organizations have to promote increasing educational qualifications if the nurse leaders and managers must be educationally prepared at levels similar with other disciplines. The author points out that focused leadership training is a strategy that is cost effective for the development of effective leadership characteristics in nurse managers as opposed to investing in graduate education.
