Abstract

There are elements that drive successful technology and telecommunications integration and planning for an organization. Management needs to prioritize and evaluate technology used by the organization in day-to-day operations to identify which processes are critical to the organization's ability to conduct operations and which processes can be put on hold during an emergency. Scrambling to deal with technology issues once a disaster has hit is guaranteed to cost an organization.

There are elements that drive successful technology and telecommunications integration and planning for an organization. Management needs to prioritize and evaluate technology used by the organization in day-to-day operations to identify which processes are critical to the organization's ability to conduct operations and which processes can be put on hold during an emergency. According to most references concerning telecommuting, people encourage companies to take part in it. They believe it will increase profits and employee performance among other aspects. Since telecommuting can increase productivity and savings, Exelon nuclear can expand itself with its employees. With that in mind, the reduce cost and benefits that comes along with the program would be overwhelming convincing to a company like Exelon nuclear that is always looking for improvements. Since there are many benefits to a telecommuting program, our company, Exelon Nuclear and its employees would benefit from it even on a part-time basis.

In considering the telecommuting program, we must try it on trial basis because others may not be convinced of the stability of it. Jane Anderson, the director of the Midwest Institute for Telecommuting Education suggests that the trial telecommuting program must be evaluated once in the beginning, once in the middle, and once in the end to authenticate efficiency is not suffering. A list of measurable goals must be provided so that we can evaluate the progress. We should also calculate the present work being executed. After that, Exelon nuclear must determine that against the work being performed at home. This will present management with a tool to compare productivity (Smith, 2010). The next crucial step is to always focus on the benefits that telecommuting can deliver to the company, rather than the traffic jams that employees will be able to avoid. By doing the suggested process, Exelon nuclear and its employees will see the benefits of having a telecommuting program quickly, which would be a great asset to this company (Ross).

In order to defeat a crisis situation of this idea, we must approach it in a more subtle way. Communication is the key to any relationship even within a crisis. The steps help people to communicate because patience fosters understanding and in a crisis setting, they need patients. As it was stated above, within a crisis setting, everyone needs to have patience because sometimes you do not always get what you want because mass trauma may be occurring, however, you will always get what you need.

From there, in a crisis within a telecommunications where technology fails, communication is very important because there is time pressure and a procedure to follow. In order to take control of the crisis and communicate effectively, there are some general techniques that can be used (Proactive Medical Care Advisors).

1.

Explain that crises are time-limited, that is, usually the worst will not last long because more medical help will be given. This will help a person to regain a state of mind-body which also reduces stress.

2.

Fortunately, there is a learning curve. Effective coping with an initial crisis sequence often helps prepare an individual for positively responding to and for managing subsequent crises or trauma effects.

3. Effective listening is a key component in order to avoid misinterpretation of the point that others are trying to make. When people assume what others are saying before they finish, it leaves the door open for miscommunication and that cannot happen within a crisis.

Within a crisis, there is always stress involved because there is a sense of urgency and panic in the air. By this occurring, emotions are running high, which makes the stress level that much higher. Here are three ways to reduce stress in a crisis situation in a health care facility.

1. Take charge of the situation. This may sound simple, but during a crisis it is one of the most difficult things for a leader to do. In a medical emergency, the first step is to take charge of the situation. This is because people react favorably to direction and decisive leadership in such a situation (Martin).

2. Recognize what is happening. This means take responsibility by admitting up front to the situation. Therefore, it is not a good time to start blaming others for the crisis. This will only add more stress. A search for causes is relevant because it can contribute to solving the immediate problem (Martin).
