Training in the Automotive Field
In today's business world too many managers view training as a luxury, and not a competitive and strategic necessity. Training is not just a matter of survival; it's what separates high performance organizations from those that are eventually declared dead. Training is more than just building the skills and knowledge of each individual of a team for their own personal benefit. Companies that have devoted time and money to training have reported the following benefits:
Improved recruiting. Job applicants are looking for environments that promote personal growth and development. Effective training program allow a company to cast a wider net by hiring people with the right attitude.
Higher retention. Knowing that a company believes in a person's personal growth tends to make them stay with that company for a longer period of time.
Better output. The lower the turnover rate that a company has the more productive, enthusiastic and motivated they will be. Employees will put their new knowledge and skills into everything they design, produce and service (Why Training is Important, 2009).
Training is important in any business but especially in the automotive filed. Because of the high levels of competition that exists in this industry it is very important that leadership understand the effects that a good training program can have on their competitive advantage. The automotive industry is an industry that has tremendous implications on the United States economy. Shifts in the supply and demand of automobiles in this country have far reaching effects on purchases that are made. People work very hard for what little money they do have so they tend to want to spend it on the best products available.
In business a company seeks to make a profit by providing customers with quality goods and services. In the Automobile Industry the company's brand becomes its signature. If the brand is good then everyone knows that. If the brand is bad everyone knows that too. Producing a high quality product along with providing good customer service is the best way to gain and keep customers.
A company's employees can only perform these functions at a high quality level if they are trained to do so. They can only work with the tools that they are given. Training should be considered the most important tool that they can posses. In the Automobile Industry each part of the chain is linked to the next. The production workers must be trained in order to produce top quality products. The sales people must be trained in order to sell the product that has been produced. The service people must be trained to diagnose and fix any problems that might arise. And those in customer service must be trained to facilitate the retention of customers. Ultimately for any business if they have no customers then there is no point in having a product to sell.
