Steps to promote interdisciplinary care in the clinic to improve quality and continuity of care for clients
As a nurse supervisor, I would break down the walls at the clinic's working environment by enforcing teamwork before nurses embark on their work. I would expand interdisciplinary working programs and opportunities to assist in fostering collaboration among healthcare professionals at the clinic. This will lead to more effective and improved communication across inter-disciplines. Evidently, this will ultimately result in a higher quality, more affordable and safer care. I would implement various strategies in fostering inter-disciplinary working environment. This will include inter-professional social events, inter-professional days, inter-disciplinary clinic activities, appointments of joint faculties and social sites for networking including healthcare professionals from various fields related to healthcare (Parcells & Coplon, 2011).
How to approach Ms. W about delegation and teamwork in a positive manner
As the supervisor in charge of all nurses, I would approach M.s W. By including all the employees in the process of delegation. I would empower Ms. W to make decisions on which tasks she feels, I should delegate to her and when. After this, I would delegate tasks to the lowest possible levels of the clinic. Employees at the closest to this area of specialization tend to be more suitable for this task; addressing the needs of Ms. R. This is because these people are intimately knowledgeable about all details regarding the daily operations and work in this area. This approach has the potential of increasing efficiency at the clinic and is helpful in developing employees (Dhar, 2009).
After delegating the tasks, I would offer them necessary support and avail myself for any further clarifications. I would ensure that the process is successful by constantly monitoring, communicating, and providing credit and resources. After implementing this strategy, I would ensure regular and appropriate team briefings. This involves spending time to provide explanations why each member was selected for the task, the expected outcomes of the task, the objectives I have regarding the entire job, and all resources deadlines and timeliness they should consider accomplishing their tasks. A schedule will be developed to check the progress of the job. I would be clear in information all team members that I will be available in case they need further guidance or if any problem arises in the course of the work (Lipe & Beasley, 2008).
Ms. W's responsibility regarding delegation, supervision, and making referrals to optimize patient outcomes
Ms. W's responsibility includes carrying out tasks that do not need the expertise of her leaders. She was hired by the clinic because business had built up and leaders required more people among them Ms. W she must be dedicated to talking the language of her leaders, have a clear understanding of what the leaders of the clinic are trying to achieve and must be involved in the clinic's endeavors (Dhar, 2009).
A resource that Ms. W could access to learn more about delegation in nursing
First, Ms. W should understand that a clear inter-communication is vital in successful task delegation. Ms. W must see herself as a member of the team. She must be aware of her responsibility towards the success of the clinic. I would recommend Ms. W to access the Small Businesses article written by Pat Croce. In this article, Croce writes that business growth is founded by delegation. He has provided a triple A strategy of evaluation focusing on ambition, attitude, and assets of different employees. He states that businesses are built through feedback, communication, guidelines, and delegation. It is in my belief that such details will be of great benefit to Ms. W (Parcells & Coplon, 2011).
