Coffee Shop Social Interactions
For this assignment, I chose to observe social interactions at my local coffee shop. I spent approximately three hours there on a Sunday afternoon, at peak time when the coffee shop was busy with activity. I selected this setting because coffee shops often serve as a microcosm of society, where various social behaviors can be observed.
Throughout my observation, I noticed a variety of interactions. There were groups of friends catching up, individuals engrossed in their laptops or phones, or even books, and couples sharing intimate conversations. A few behaviors that stood out to me included non-verbal cues, territorial behavior, and social norms and etiquette. For instance, many people used non-verbal cues to communicate: a nod to acknowledge someone entering, a wave to call the barista's attention, or a smile between strangers who were doing something friendly like holding a door open. I saw territorial behavior as well among people who came to work or study: they marked their territory with their belongings by spreading out their materials, perhaps as a way to claim space and deter others from sitting too close. As for social norms and etiquette, there was an unspoken queue system. Even though there was no clear line, people seemed to know who came before them and waited their turn. Or, people lowered their voices during personal conversations, respecting the shared public space by trying to be quiet.
Some concepts that apply are proxemics and social conformity. Proxemics refers to the study of how people use space and the effects that population density has on things like behavior, communication, and social interaction. The territorial behavior I observed can be linked to this concept. People seem to desire personal space, and in public settings, they often use objects to create a sense of that space. Social Conformity is the act of matching attitudes and behaviors to the norms of the group or whole. The queue system and the lowering of voices during personal conversations, I would say, can be attributed to social conformity. People tend to follow established norms in public settings, even if they aren't explicitly stated.
45). Threats Some times on my workdays, I encounter challenges and obstacles that I need to be ready to face. Some customers are not happy with the coffee rooms and demand a refund. Besides, other guests become extremely angry and may want to inform the senior management. Our competition is other coffee houses, which is right next to us. The hotel is closed for now, but a lot of work is

Issues for example could occur if business in one coffee shop is unexpected good for the day. However, because this business was unanticipated, the shop may encounter difficulties with appropriate inventory. Social Norm Experiment: Scenario 6 -- Facing the Wrong Way in an Elevator Solomon Asch's Conformity Experiments during the 1950s demonstrated how much individual opinion and even perception of reality can be influenced by others (Gerrig & Zimbardo 2009, 577-579). Studies and surveys have succeeded in proving that most stories about students are actually lies. After the respective studies have been made public, specialists have observed that students have begun to abandon practices which involved harmful substances. Social norms programs have proved to be successful in reducing harmful substances abuse among students.
