Answer the Questions from Reading

After reading the materials on religion, I learnt that all three monotheistic religions hold something in common. Essentially, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam religions believe in one deity. However, there are various aspects that I discovered about the three religions that make them distinct. For instance, while there is only one God in Christianity who is the creator of everything. He exists in three forms, i.e. God the son, God the father, and God the Holy Spirit. In Christianity, I discovered that Christians are historically inclined and follow the events that took place when Jesus was still on earth. From a Jewish perspective, I have gained knowledge of the reasons as to why Jews listen to prophets and why they strive to do what is good. This is rooted upon the fact that prophets act as a link to God and He communicates through the said prophets. In addition, Jews believe that they will be punished if they do wrong and rewarded for their good deeds. From Islam, I got to learn develop better understand of why Islam refer to God as Allah. One of the said reasons is that Muhammad, who happens to the prophet of God according to the said religion (although there were other prophets before him) called his followers to follow only one God who did not have rivals.

There are three concepts that I found interesting in this module which are as follows:

1. God as the creator of all things - Everything in the world was created by God and therefore all things must remain perfect as God made them.

2. The use of stories and poetry to explain Gods love - Jesus used stories which in most cases had to be explained to illustrate certain events and explain the will of God to people. In Islam, both stories and poems were used. Therefore, there would be need for stories and poems to be rooted in religious purposes.

3. Worship of Idols - It is interesting that despite the fact that God was the ultimate creator of all things, idols were still worshipped in monotheist religions. Idol worship should, and must, be banished.
