Professional Development And Position Interview

¶ … prioritizing your work on a typical day? Prioritizing work means coming up with a schedule that is based partly on the importance of meeting specific deadlines, but also based on the actual importance of each task and the people who requested them. Low priority items would get shifted to the bottom of my to-do list, freeing up energy and time for the more important activities. However, on some days it is helpful to tick off some of the low priority and easy tasks early.

Tell us how would you handle a disgruntled customer who is not satisfied with your job performance?

Handling disgruntled bosses or disgruntled customers requires patience, confidence, and poise. The first thing I would do would be to take a step away from the conversation if I find myself getting upset. I can return to it later with a calm and clear mind. Then, I would try to get clarity about why the person is upset. I would listen closely to what the person had to say instead of reacting, and then consider their comments and criticisms.

3.Describe how you work under pressure, deadlines, etc.?

I work very well under pressure. Pressure gives me a source of energy that I otherwise do not have because I feel highly motivated to accomplish the tasks and therefore work faster, harder, and more efficiently. Therefore, working with tight deadlines and other pressures can be good for my performance. The only kind of pressure I do not like is unnecessary pressure.

4.What do you feel is your greatest strength and greatest weakness in the workplace?

My greatest strength is my open-mindedness. I am able to see almost every issue from multiple perspectives. This allows me to understand different people and also to be a creative problem solver. I rarely consider issues or problems from one angle. I find it far more interesting and more effective to think outside the box and expand the options. My greatest weakness is my oversensitivity. Sometimes I take what other people say too seriously and believe this may be due to my need to develop more self-esteem.

5.Tell us about a time when you observed a coworker doing something inappropriate and how you handled it.

When I observed a coworker doing something inappropriate, in this case taking someone else's lunch from the refrigerator, I casually said, "Oh did she ask you to bring her lunch to her desk today? That is nice of you." The person mumbled something about not realizing whose lunch it was even though the name was printed in big letters. He put back the lunch and looked embarrassed when he walked away.

6.Tell us about a complex situation where you performed a difficult analysis and made a recommendation.

I enjoy problem solving, so when faced with a complex situation like figuring out how to balance our

I came up with five different possible solutions and quantified the projected cost savings from implementing each of them. Then, I created a PowerPoint presentation using visual aids like charts and graphs and presented my findings and suggestions to the team. They ended up choosing one of my ideas and by the end of the fiscal year, we had saved $45,000 dollars.
7.Why did you leave your last job or planning to leave your current?

I am not being sufficiently challenged in my current position and there is no room for me to advance further in the company. I enjoy the people I work with, but it is a relatively small company and all the executives are family members. Therefore, I am ready to find a position with a firm offering plenty of room for growth and advancement as well as opportunities for professional development.

8.What preparations have you done to prepare yourself for employment overseas?

It has long been my dream to live and work abroad, perhaps in several different countries. I am eager to learn how other cultures do business, their manner of communication, and also to see first hand the environmental factors like politics and how that affect business. The preparations I have done include researching companies with international presence and seeing where I might be of use or fit in. I have also made some contacts in several countries including China and Colombia.

9.What are your long-range Goals?

My long-range goals are mainly to own my own company or to at least work in an executive position of a firm I believe in and in which I feel empowered. I also want to work in a socially responsible way, always keeping in mind the importance of corporate social responsibility and ethics as well as environmental stewardship. I want to be a business leader and thought leader, someone who gives TED talks and who inspires others to take action.
