Physics - Mission To Mars Term Paper

The President envisions returning to the Moon by 2020 at the latest, for the purpose of being able to launch robotic missions to Mars (Whitehouse, 2004). According to the American Physical Society and many independent scientists, the President's goal overvalues the symbolic significance of landing on Mars at the expense of research that is more immediately beneficial to human society, and a more prudent financial expenditure (APS, 2004). This is a view with which I am inclined to agree. References

Physics Simulation Displacement, Velocity, and Acceleration In the session long projects for this class, you will be asked to conduct experiments in a "virtual" laboratory. We will use the falling-ball simulation (Background: University of Oregon, n.d.) to calculate the acceleration of gravity on the Earth, Moon, and Mars. The most general equation for displacement is a = s0 + V0t + (1/2)at2 where's = displacement after time t s0 = initial displacement (location at t

Solar Flares Affect Planet Earth

The last major x-ray flare occurred in 2003 ("O'Dell). Most of the energy from an x-ray flare is absorbed by the earth's ionosphere ("O'Dell). Thus, a CME can be far more dangerous for human societies than an x-ray flare. The first and most subtle observable phenomenon signaling an upcoming solar storm are known as coronal loops, which are "kinks in the magnetic flux form" forced to the surface of the

The theory of relativity would go on to have tremendous impact on the modern world, from philosophical speculation and "relativity" to nuclear physics and the creation of the atom bomb. In conclusion, the Michelson-Morley experiment, though repeated for nearly half a century later (and still replicated by students such as Rogers and Selvaggi), erased the idea of ether as a medium through which light waves traveled. Although their experiment provided

10)." Just as in the U.S. economy, where individuals have been economically left behind, such will be, and is, the case in the emerging global economy (p. 10). Ayres says that the impression, or the turning of society's blind eye towards the chaos of the economically disenfranchised, tends to cause the more affluent amongst us to believe that the term "global" means everybody will be a part of the emerging

Life Coach As singer and entertainer Bobby Sherman once remarked, "As far as show business, it's the gratification of doing something that pleases the fans ("Brainy Quote")." As I have seen in so many representations of modern culture in my life, long-term effects are eschewed in favor of immediate results and the deciding factors, more often than not, are economic. As I frequently point out, shortsighted economic policies result in unforeseen
