The final point is that others have to do whatever they are doing as all cults try to expand their numbers at the earliest opportunity. The frames are manipulative to put individuals in a situation where they would find it very difficult to get out of. The frames are formed in a manner where they can not be determined easily as ordinary persons are too busy to realize that they are facing an issue which has been framed. The method of avoiding this is to remember that one has to make all decisions for oneself with full responsibility. One of the areas when this is used in convincing people to purchase some not needed items. To avoid this people have to ask themselves whether they need the item, or whether they have greater needs for their money. One has also to find out if the seller would be making a benefit from the purchase, and this is to be found out. When this matter is being hidden one can be certain that one is being framed. The method of defending oneself is to suggest alternate strategies to the individual and see the reaction. (Frame Defense)

Another method of influencing people is through advertising, and this has a very high influence as it uses the method of social communication, media. This gets around to all areas of a person's life and determines their attitude and behavior. Yet it is a very important matter to think about as in the ultimate stage it influences people about their views on life and their choices and behavior. The reason why advertising is used is to both inform and persuade people and do it at the same time. This is not the same as marketing which involves shifting of goods from the manufacturer to the retailer or public relations which involves changing the general view about some individual or organization. Yet, at the same time, advertising uses techniques that are used by those also. (Ethics in Advertising)
Since the purpose of advertising is to convince people to spend money for buying certain products or services, they generally talk about the positive aspects and do not highlight the difficulties. They even develop social differences to ensure that the products are bought, and their greatest insistence is that possession of the item will lead to happiness. It is clear that the matters discussed are methods to influence people for the benefit of individuals or groups and not the person to whom the behavioral change, product or service is being given. The efforts are also for the benefits of the person doing the convincing, and this is certainly not ethical.
