Payroll System Architecture For A Large Company Essay

New Payroll Application Architecture One of the most commonly automated business processes and operations in the recent past is payroll, which is also the most often used human resource solution. The increased use and automation of payroll is attributable to the need to ease and reduce the time spent in payroll processes, which is one of the first applications in the working environment. Despite the increased automation of payroll, there are several companies that are yet to migrate from spreadsheets to payroll software such as this large organization with offices throughout the United States. The company, which has one large data center with offices connected through a Wide Area Network (WAN), is developing an automated payroll program. This process requires identifying a suitable type of architecture, types of technologies to be involved, and addressing any ethical issues that could emerge with the new architecture.

Type of Architecture for the New Payroll Application

The process of selecting an appropriate payroll application and architecture has become critical and widespread as ever before because organizations of all sizes are increasingly looking to build and/or upgrade new payroll software solutions (Fairchild, n.d.). However, the selection of a suitable type of architecture for a new payroll application requires critical evaluation of various factors because of the significant investment of money and time involved in identifying a new payroll application. This process is increasingly difficult and complex for this large organization because of its size (i.e. having different offices across the United States) and the various organizational needs relating to payroll. In essence, determining the suitable type of architecture for the new payroll application for this organization requires examining its size and organizational needs to ensure effectiveness. Moreover, examining these factors will help ensure that the company's monetary and time investments do not go to waste.

With regards to the size of this company, developing a suitable payroll program through selecting an appropriate architecture is characterized by several challenges because it has offices spread throughout the United States. In this case, effective application architecture with regards to design is one that promotes smooth connections between the large data center and the various offices across the country through a Wide Area Network (WAN). In relation to the numerous organizational needs relating to payroll, the application should not be characterized by connectivity problems because these offices are in different locations. Connectivity problems would hinder the ability of the payroll application and architecture to meet these organizational needs and ensure the program works effectively.

Based on these factors, the new payroll application system should be based on a strong architectural framework that synthesize data contained in inventories, integration of existing income tax rates, avoidance of errors, and analysis of allowances. The most suitable type of architecture for the new payroll application for this company is WAN Payroll System architecture, which is part of a multifaceted approach to offer end-to-end enterprise network architecture. The suitability of this architecture is partly influenced by the fact that the company already uses a Wide Area Network to connect its various offices across the country to the large data center in its headquarters.

The use of this architecture for the new payroll system is also influenced by the fact that it is characterized by strong, scalable, and easy-to-use management techniques that can effectively address complexities relating to payroll issues of a large company. As a result, the architecture will provide comprehensive, dependable, and scalable management abilities that promote rapid deployment and management of services. The WAN Payroll System architecture can function as a separate system or be integrated using various interfaces for highly efficient flow operations. The other benefits of using this architecture for the new payroll system include improved operator workflow, fault evaluation, simplified configuration, and enhanced troubleshooting functions. These benefits emerge from its varying features including integrated security, payroll system intelligence, stable and scalable network infrastructure, and wireless connectivity.

Components of the Architecture

The WAN Payroll System architecture will be based on client-server computing model in which data is centralized in the company's headquarters. The client-server computing model assumes that clients are potent and data processing is geared towards execution on clients. In this case, computer resources are divided between a server and at least one client. As an important component of the architecture, this computing model allows huge, increasingly scalable applications that are delivered to various clients (Furht et al., n.d.). The main objective of the component is to connect all local area networks of the various offices of the company throughout the country. The new payroll program for this large organization with various offices across the United States will comprise different elements based on the WAN Payroll System architecture used in its design and development. One of the most important aspects of the payroll program is the ability to examine the various details relating to employees' payment. This capability is part of the process of establishing a solid architectural framework for the organization's payroll system. The analysis of various details relating to employees' payment will be achieved through including the number of hours of completed work by individual workers. This is primarily because of the difference in hours of work between employees, which contributes to considerable variations in payment.

Secondly, the payroll system will incorporate the current income tax rates and any other revenue deductions based on existing laws on taxation and revenue deductions. This is an important aspect of the system because it will help ensure the large organization complies with federal regulations on taxation to ensure suitable payment practices. Rates of taxes and revenue deductions must be considered when calculating the payment of all workers in the organization.

Third, the payroll system will be established in consideration of labor data i.e. the nature of work carried out by an individual employee. Generally, the nature of work completed by employees varies and contributes to pay variations. The inclusion of such information in the payroll system helps in ensuring effective payment of all workers based on their specific roles and responsibilities in the company. Actually, such information is necessary in the payroll program or system because of the need to make precise calculations and avoid low levels of accuracy, which contributes to huge organizational expenses.

It is important to identify suitable kinds of technologies for the architecture because of the widespread advancements of computer technologies for streamlining payroll programs and systems. The identification of the most appropriate technological components to be utilized in the architecture is important towards the effective implementation of the proposed architectural system. The Internet

The first important type of technology that will be included in this architecture and payroll system is the Internet. This is primarily because the Internet will help in promoting and ensuring that all organizational departments and offices are not only connected to the large data center but also linked to the payroll system. Actually, Internet connection is the foundation of WAN Payroll System, which depends on connectivity to establish networks and promote integration between different locations. Given the size of this company, a high speed fourth generation internet connectivity platform will be utilized. This platform is required because the company's officers are located throughout the country and its role in promoting timely and speed transfer of payroll-related data or information. The need for this kind of internet connectivity platform is also attributed to the expansive nature of the country where the large organization is headquartered and has established several offices. In essence, without a high speed internet connectivity platform, WAN Payroll System architecture cannot function effectively.
