Nursing Research In Future Hallberg, I.R. 2006 . Essay

¶ … Nursing Research in Future Hallberg, I.R. (2006). Challenges for future nursing research: Providing evidence for health-care practice. International Journal of Nursing Studies. 43: 923-927

Nursing research has become a question of practicality. Is it prudent for funding to go into Nursing research when there is so much funding getting cut from everything and anything that is involved in health care. This article goes into the usage of nursing research and examines its need for society, from both a sociological perspective, as well as a medical and health perspective. The idea is to get nursing research into a more mainstream type of environment in which its practicality is more valued and it can be seen as something that can be used in future studies outside of nursing.

Nursing research tends to lean more towards the qualitative side of research. Although this in itself has brought plenty of contribution into the medical atmosphere, it is also not what many scientists look into. They themselves are more interested in new scientific findings, of more numerical data, and seeing the right numbers in front of them so that others can expand on that research. Analyzing things like charts, graphs, and statistical data is something that is sometimes viewed as more valuable because of its ability to be retested more easily.

Facing this challenge in nursing research makes this type of research seem as if it is not as important as the research done by medical doctors or certifies scientists. But the qualitative research that the majority of nursing professionals go into does contribute immensely to the quantitative portion as it is one that enables the correct procedures to be done and it is the type of research that facilitates its applicability to the general public. This is the type of research that actually deals with the people it is eventually going to affect, but getting it to get as noticed as quantitative research is what makes this process more difficult.

Paim, L., Trentini, M., Guerreiro, D., & Jochen, A.A. (2010). Challenges to Nursing Research. Esc. Anna Nery. Rio de Janeiro. 14(2).

The gap that exists between the theory that nursing research comes up with and the actual practice of the type of research that is done, makes nursing research a difficult concept to understand and apply further beyond the nursing practice. Knowing that nursing research is heavily based on developing new theories in which things should be either improved or newly implemented, does not necessarily always translate to practicality. The researchers in this study attempted to apply nursing research to further venues and analyze why it is that nursing research currently faces challenges.

It seems difficult to comprehend why research that is conducted by nurses is deemed as being less practical because this in itself brings danger to the survival of nursing research in the future. Knowing ways in which nursing research can be theoretically applied to the hard sciences and to the practice of not just medicine, but all health fields and professions will make nursing research more important and will reduce the challenges that it currently faces for its survival in the future. If application is the biggest challenge in nursing research, then finding better ways for it to be put into practice would be an opportunity for this topic to grow and to get the attention that it deserves.

As mentioned in this article, a way for nursing research to survive is to bring to light the ways that the theory contributes to the practice. Instead of seeing these two things as being different entities, they should be seen as one complimenting the other. The biggest challenge in nursing research is that researchers can find it difficult to bring one topic to another, when in reality the theory affects the practice and in order to improve both concepts, they need to be analyzed as being one.

Allen, D. & Taylor, S. (2007). Visions of evidence-based nursing practice. Nurse Researcher. 15(1):78.

While research in nursing is a relatively new field in comparison to the other types of medical and health research, a new method to incorporate and make nursing research more relevant to others and amore applicable field to the world of nursing itself is to make it evidence-based instead of theory-based. The authors of this article make a suggestion as what the two basic ideas behind evidence-based research could make it be easier handled in the United Kingdom. They suggest that the field of nursing research has in itself divided...

Health care is not just about the practice and science of medicine, but its is also a contribution of all the various factors that intertwine to make it possible for the field of health care to even function. By having nursing research not just focus on theory, but also on the practice of health management and the guidance of a team of health care professionals, and make these research practices more relevant, applicable, and practical, the field of nursing research could as a result reduce the challenges that it imposes. In order for nursing research to sustain it practicality in the future, it needs to refocus its theoretical basis and instead focus on not necessarily the enforcement of actual scientific practices in medicine, but on the implementation of service oriented management practices that allow an entire system to run.
Im, E.O. (2010). Current trends in feminist nursing research. Nursing Outlook. 58(2):87-96.

Research in the field of nurses faces challenges for its survival in the future for its tendency on concentrating on the theoretical part of science and medicine and not giving enough importance on the practical portion of these fields. In this article, another form of looking at nursing research is analyzed and brought up as being an important contribution to the nursing society and to the realm of science and medicine because of its unique vision into how and why certain practices should be accomplish and looking at it from a unique and interesting perspective. This type of research, feminist nursing research, in itself faces its own unique challenges because of the idea that this type of research only focuses on women and how the field of medicine, health, and nursing implicate women alone. This is seen as a challenge in being able to apply it to the greater population, which is what nursing research, or research in general, is all about. But it can be argued that this can instead be a new future for nursing research. Being able to make it more focused and more applicable to the population is something that feminist nursing research is already doing. Because of the challenges that it has been facing for so long, since its development, it has dealt with what the challenges that the entire field of nursing research is going through and is going to go through in the future.

In order for this field to have survived as long as it has, new adaptations and new methods of applicability were taken. This is a great example of how nursing research overall can overcome the challenges of accusation of overwhelming theory and impracticality. Research can be shaped to be applied to whichever field needs it, and knowing that nursing research can indeed be valid for future medicine practices gives it hope.

Grady, P. (2011). Research: A foundation for health policy. In Hinshaw, A.S. & Grady, P.A. (Eds.) Shaping Health Policy Through Nursing Research. 17-34. New York, NY: Springer Publishing Company, LLC.

Nursing research has faced many challenges and continues to do so in terms of practicality and applicability to a much greater topic than what is immediately medically available. The challenge that this concept imposes is that it reduces nursing research to being health and medically applicable when much more goes into a health profession than just practice. This chapter goes in depth into how nursing research can overcome its current and future challenges by concentrating the majority of its research solely on health policy. In order for health and medical systems and facilities to run accordingly, an appropriate method needs to be in place, and who better to come up with this methods than nursing researchers.

This entire concept gives nursing research a way to remove itself further away from the misconceptions that nursing research poses a challenge by not having practical medical research. It gives the opportunity for nursing research to be able to focus on one ground and give it a way to evolve into something that could potentially bring more structure into an area that needs it most. As a foundation for health policy, it can contribute immensely by changing every concept involved in the field of health policy.…

Knowing the history of nursing research allows one to know that the challenges that currently faces it now have always been present. Its role within the health field has always been questionable because of its believed lack of applicability and practicality, and the use of it has always been determined practically non-existent. Having all this in mind, the future of this discipline in greatly discussed in this section and it is this that brings to mind its usefulness. If nursing research is compared head to that of a more scientific nature, or research conducted by medical doctors, than it could be viewed as coming in second, or lacking importance, but when reviewed by itself and broken down in terms of what it actually covers, nursing research can be as useful in any health discipline.

The challenges of nursing research in the future still does involve its lack of practicality and applicability, but since it is now shifting more towards health policy nature and it seems to have more practicality in the politics behind health care, that in itself has become the new challenge. Nursing research is being redefined to the point that it has lost what it once was. The way in which the nursing research being done now is conducted, its human side is being lost and more administrative applications are being put forth upon it. This is a challenge that has been overwhelming the discipline and having veterans of nursing research come face-to-face with what nursing research is slowly becoming. Having to enable this part of nursing research in order to redefine an entire concept has become something of concern that will only keep growing in the future. The challenges of nursing research can be defined as one of a constant battle.

Nursing Research How Data Collection Influences Statistics Data collection influences statistics in several ways. First, data is collected according to a "category scheme," which is the establishment of meaningful categories in which the data is collected and analyzed (Polit & Beck, 2008, p. 508). If the category scheme is not well developed and meaningful, adequate data may not be effectively collected and examined to inform the nurse researcher about whatever topic he/she
