Tricia the new store director, and her three new assistants are on a mission to restructure the store. Each assistant was given a task, and a job, which made the retail store run more effectively. There was structure, organization, and a peaceful work environment about the four ladies. Tricia held daily contest, making it fun to come to work, showing more motivation with the sales going up. Performance -- to-outcome was most affected. When all four ladies where on the same page, working to achieve a goal, and having team members who were more like family made everyone want to work, this created motivation within the team members . Sales started to go up, production was seen on the sales floor, and organization in the back room with retail made it possible to locate items for the customer .

4. Using the 5 different styles of reacting to conflicting (avoiding, forcing, accommodating, collaborating and compromising) analyze the behavior of Tricia, Lori, Tammy, and Amy.

In the beginning Tricia was very accommodating to the new assistants. She would collaborate with the assistants Lori, Tammy and Amy daily, and with all three once a week, and even would go to dinner with the team once a week. At the end once Tricia made the announcement that she was leaving the retail business to go back to school, the mood shift among the assistants, and avoidance stated among Tammy, and Tricia, and Lori and Tricia. During this time Tricia was left to be very authoritative in her position with the assistants, and focusing them to produce numbers, making it difficult to work together as a team.
5. Discuss if any team dysfunction was evident in this case.

In this case there was noticeable team dysfunction at the end. This started when Tricia made the announcement that she wanted to return back to school. The ladies didn't want to lose Tricia, and now the animosity started among the assistants against Tricia. Tammy went above Tricia's head to the district manger wanting to take her job as store director. By this time, Tricia was no longer trying to interact with Lori and Tammy except for necessary work issues. Tricia became authoritative in all of her dealing with the assistants. However, she did give Amy additional responsibilities and, in effect, trained Any to be store director.
