Negotiation Throughout The Course Of My Life Creative Writing

Negotiation Throughout the course of my life I have been involved in many negotiations and discussions about various different experiences and occurrences. One consistent idea that remained true to all of these experiences was the ability to communicate effectively within a negotiation. Successful employment of these negotiation techniques has mostly proven to be advantageous in my past situations. In some instances however, I was unaware of my poor negotiation skills and later regretted my actions and behavior within that particular experience. The purpose of this essay is to highlight one of these negotiations where I seemingly failed to demonstrate the appropriate attitudes and behaviors to successfully negotiate a situation.

Most people in today's society are required to work for a living order to provide the resources necessary to continue their existence here on earth. Education and the educational system are very helpful in developing people towards reaching their ultimate academic and professional goals. It is required however to pay for the schooling and education, and as a result I was required to take a job as a telephone sales representative for a supply company. My negotiation skills that I useb with my customers were developed and practiced on a daily basis while giving me a solid background in understanding the knowledge and special traits required to become a good salesman and excelling within the negotiation. I became one of the top salesman within the group and became a reliable member of the team also taking a leadership role and demonstrating and teaching others certain tricks of the trade that would help garner new sales and profits. By excelling at the workplace, I soon saw the opportunity to enter into new types of negotiations where more seasoned and professional tactics were present.

I also understood that I did like my job and my fellow workmates and my boss even, but I thought it was ultimately unfair that I will was not being paid more for the work that I was accomplishing.
The first steps in any negotiation is gathering as much knowledge and information that you possibly can before stepping into the situation. After considering and gathering information necessary before entering into this negotiation, I decided I should ask for a 10% pay raise as that was a fair representation of what I was contributing to the company. I researched and found that someone in my position was earning more than I was in my geographical area and decided that the time was right to approach my supervisor to ask for a raise.

Before approaching my boss, I took in all the emotional considerations of both myself and the other party before entering into this discussion. I was of course nervous, but I knew that I was justified in my proposal. I assumed that my supervisor was approached about this subject on occasion and knew how to deal with it and probably would deflect the request without giving any raises. When I approached my boss about the subject and told what I wanted, I felt the negotiation had officially begun and I began to shift gears into a more competitive and dynamic mode.

As I recall, I was very respectful towards my supervisor and he was very respectful towards me and handled the situation in a…
